Who is Vijaya Gadde? Twitter's fired legal chief caught at center of storm for blocking Hunter Biden story
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The 'Twitter Files' has told a "Frankensteinian tale of a human-built mechanism grown out the control of its designer" as put by author and journalist Matt Taibbi who was allegedly given the documents exposing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in 2020 by Elon Musk. The files have revealed that the CEO, Jack Dorsey, was unaware of the influence that certain political people have on the platform but Vijaya Gadde was a key player. The billionaire tech mogul acquired Twitter not too long ago and quickly made some prominent changes, mainly immediately firing several top executives such as Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, the top lawyer for the firm, Vijaya Gadde, Sean Edgett, and more.
Before Twitter files began on December 2, Elon Musk explained that the people's trust need to be restored and the explosive threat commenced. One crucial piece of information that Taibbi has revealed is that Dorsey, on one hand, was unaware of the situation that was weakening the company, but on the other, it was Gadde who was well aware of the doings and played a crucial role in it. Taibbi wrote, "The decision was made at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with the former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a key role."

Taibbi referred to the documents gathered by the new team running Twitter revealing that the platform, at the time, did everything in its power to suppress a New York Post story that exposed the contents of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop. He explained, "Twitter took extraordinary steps to suppress the story, removing links and posting warnings that it may be “unsafe.” They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases, e.g. child pornography." This decision, in particular, was taken by the most senior employees and Vijaya Gadde is allegedly one of them, as per claims.

Who is Vijaya Gadde?

She was heavily and actively involved in major decisions taken by Twitter and decide its approach for issues such as harassment and harmful speech. Born in India to a Telugu family and moved to the United States at age of three, she earned nearly $17 million in 2021 as Twitter's chief legal officer and earned roughly $7.3 million in 2020, as per her Wikipedia page.
Vijaya Gadde was allegedly one key element in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story and suspending the account of former American President Donald Trump which resulted in an upset Elon Musk. Back in April 2022, way before the buyout, Musk had replied to a tweet talking about Gadde saying, "Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a truthful story was obviously incredibly inappropriate." It was also reported that the day Musk walked into the San Franciso headquarters before the merger, Gadde had liked one of his tweets.
