Why did Busby's take break from 'Outdaughtered'? Covid-19 led to family's two-year hiatus from the show
HOUSTON, TEXAS: 'Outdaughtered' Season 10 is just around the corner! For those unaware, Danielle and Adam Busby took a break from their reality show 'Outdaughtered' after filming wrapped in 2021.
Now, after two years, they have decided to return for a new season to share their parenting journey with their quintuplets and daughter. The couple gained recognition for being the parents of the first-ever all-female quintuplets born in the United States and have been navigating the challenges of raising their large family on camera for eight seasons.
They recently discussed their decision to take a hiatus on their YouTube channel, citing the demands of filming and the impact of COVID. In the video, Danielle discussed the widespread impact of COVID on their family.
Danielle said, "COVID took a big turn for how things are done, how do businesses work, how do people work at home, and how do you do things with your kids? So there was just a drastic change for not only everybody else but for us too, and we took time at that point to just reassess and say, 'Okay, God, what's in our future now?"
The couple decided to step away from their show "OutDaughtered" to prioritize their family. They believed it was the most sensible choice, particularly amid the pandemic, allowing them to reconnect without additional commitments. The change in filming due to the pandemic also influenced their decision.
"A typical season of this show would take three to five months tops, and through COVID, it took close to a year," Adam said.
Are 'Outdaughtered' stars Adam Busby and Danielle Busby still together?
Adam and Danielle Busby, stars of 'Outdaughtered', have been married since 2006 and have faced challenges in their marriage.
In season 10 of the show, they will open up about how Adam's decision to work outside the home has affected their relationship and their parenting of their six children: daughter Blayke, 13, and quintuplet girls Ava, Olivia, Hazel, Riley, and Parker, 9. This shift has brought about new dynamics and challenges for the couple.
Talking of his photography work, Adam told Us Weekly, “A lot of the stuff I do, primarily I’m at home and then every now and then I would have to fly out for a project or whatnot. This season I’m working out of the house and doing a lot of shoots and brand work. So it’s caused tension as far as trying to make sure everything’s scheduled and stuff like that.”
Adam mentioned that when he used to work at the house, he didn't have to be concerned about the family's shared calendar. However, his new career path, which involves unpredictable shoots and promotional events, has made it challenging to coordinate the family's calendar. The reality star admitted that transitioning to a new role caused some challenges, but he believes that he and his partner have worked through them and are now in a better place.
As a couple in their 40s, Adam and Danielle are navigating the unique challenges of balancing their new work demands with the needs of their growing daughters. With their daughters requiring increasing attention and care, the couple is learning to adapt to the shifting dynamics of their family life.

As parents, Danielle and Adam Busby are on the same page when it comes to their daughters' dating life. They are both in agreement that their daughters should not start dating anytime soon.
When asked about his daughter's dating, Adam said, “It’s forbidden." Danielle chimed in, "It’s forbidden until you’re out of college, or at least high school.” “I think Blayke is finding a way to be like, ‘Oh, that boy’s cute.’ Or, ‘Yeah, I kind of have a crush on him,’” Danielle told Us Weekly.
She further mentioned that the teen is “becoming more vocal, but not with dad.”
The mother of six children, who married Adam in 2006, jokingly said that their kids are not interested in having their father scare the boys away. Danielle and Adam have 9-year-old quintuplets named Ava, Olivia, Hazel, Riley, and Parker. They have been featured on a reality show since 2016, showcasing their lives with their five children.
Danielle Busby gets emotional over daughter's different development levels in 'Outdaughtered' Season 10 trailer
In a heartwarming sneak peek of the upcoming season premiere of 'Outdaughtered', viewers get a glimpse of a tender moment between Danielle and Adam Busby as they spend quality time with their quintuplets, Ava, Olivia, Hazel, Riley, and Parker, during a reading session. The emotional moment showcases the strong bond between the parents and their 8-year-old daughters.
As the Busby family gathers in a circle, passing around a book filled with vibrant illustrations and fascinating facts about animals in Africa, Danielle's heart sinks as she notices that her daughters are not all reading at the same level.
As Danielle reflects on the scene, a wave of guilt washes over her. She's struck by the realization that she may have inadvertently overlooked providing individualized support to each of her children in their academic pursuits.
The disparity in reading abilities among her quintuplets - Ava, Olivia, Hazel, Riley, and Parker - serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of tailoring educational experiences to meet the unique needs of each child.
Danielle silently resolves to make a more concerted effort to address this issue and ensure that all of her daughters receive the attention and resources they require to thrive academically.
"I mean, we have an idea of who's behind, and I feel so bad because it has taken us a long time to discover that. Because I know they can do it," she said while getting teary-eyed in an interview.
In the living room, one of the quintuplets is visibly struggling to read her page, while her sister, who is already ahead in her reading, takes the time to patiently and lovingly guide her through the difficult passage. Danielle is overcome with emotion, deeply moved by the tender moment between her daughters.
Danielle added, "And Olivia, she has the biggest heart and the sweetest soul when it comes to, like, seeing someone who can't figure it out. She doesn't want anybody to, like, be behind or, like, suffer or not get something. She wants to help."
'Outdaughtered' Season 10 releases on May 7, 2024, at 9 pm ET on TLC.
