Marvel Studios had jaws dropping when they reintroduced Robert Downey Jr. back into the MCU. This time as the evil Doctor Doom in 'Avengers: Doomsday'. This will be followed by another 'Avengers' film, 'Secret Wars', in December 2027 as it draws on comicbook events on Battleworld.

Both movies will now see a slew of names return. With Doom confirmed as the primary antagonist in 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars', he will be one of the main characters returning. Other actors slated to appear are Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange (Dr Strange), along with the Fantastic 4 featuring Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing).

Also back are Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), and the Thunderbolts gang — Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/US Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost). Other names set to reprise their roles are Hayley Atwell (Captain Carter), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi).

At the time of writing, there is no official word on whether Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Chris Evans' Steve Rogers/Captain America will return. However, both OG Avengers were the focal point of 'Doomsday's miniteasers. The four trailers released so far focus on Rogers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the X-Men, featuring Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden), and the fourth one on the Wakandans and a member of the Fantastic Four.

Whta'Doomsday' also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. Also in the mix are Florence Pugh as White Widow, Kelsey Grammer as the Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

There is no official synopsis released yet to 'Doomsday', but with another trailer expected to arrive soon, the logline will not be far away. For now, it's all wait and watch as 'Avengers: Doomsday' releases in cinemas on 18 December.
