Ex-Bristol City player footballer Osagi Bascome has been tragically murdered in Bermuda. Bascome, one of the sunshine island’s most noted players, was allegedly stabbed to death on Saturday morning, December 18. The death of the 23-year-old has prompted a murder investigation.

“We know people saw what happened and we urge them to do the right thing by Osagi and tell us," detective chief inspector Peter Stableford said. Police have said that they believe the stabbing was not gang related.

“A police investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old male, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an apparent stabbing incident," BristolLive quoted a police spokesperson in Bermuda as saying. “Officers were at King Edward Memorial Hospital in connection with another matter, when they were alerted to the victim who was brought into the Emergency Department in a non-responsive state, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. “The victim was transported to hospital via private vehicle. Details are at this time limited. A scene has now been established in the area of Fun Zone, Wallers Point Road, St. Georges." The spokesperson said that a party was being held where an altercation took place.

At a press conference held by police following the murder, the country’s minister for national security, Renee Ming, said, “I extend my deepest condolences to the family of this young man, who is this afternoon coming to terms with this tragedy." “While information is still being gathered and the investigation begins, I appeal to members of the public, who may have seen or heard what happened, to please share that information with police. If you know something, say something,” she added.

Osagi Bascome spent his youth with a number of English and Spanish clubs. As a senior, he represented Massanassa in Spain and Darlington in England's National League North. Between 2016 and 2020, he played as many as 19 games for Bermuda.

Bascome spent his early years at the youth set-ups at Aston Villa, Stoke City, Valencia and Levante in Spain, and came to Bristol City in late 2016. Coming on trial, he impressed then Robins under-23s coach Jamie McAllister after he played three games for the under-23s. "He's been a ball of energy from the moment he arrived at the club. He can play up top in a two and also as a number ten."
