‘American Idol’ Season 24 reveals Top 7 as Disney Night sends two favorites home
The latest episode of ‘American Idol’ Season 24 brought a couple of tough goodbyes, as the competition narrowed from the Top 9 to the Top 7. Disney Night has always been a fan favorite, and this year’s edition stayed true to that reputation. But while the performances wowed the audience, the results at the end of the night reminded everyone that the finish line is getting closer. The glamorous night welcomed Jennifer Hudson, who returned to the show not just as a guest judge but also as a mentor, guiding the contestants through their Disney song choices.
During rehearsals and performances, Hudson didn’t hold back when it came to sharing her thoughts. She described Lucas Leon as an “old soul,” pointing to a maturity in his voice that stands out for someone his age. Jordan McCullough also earned praise, with Hudson calling his vocals “an anointing.” And when Keyla Richardson stepped on stage to perform ‘Circle of Life,’ Hudson teared up. The contestants picked songs from across Disney’s catalog. Tracks from ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ also made their way into the lineup, giving each singer a chance to showcase their range and personality. Some went for big moments, while others chose a softer, stripped-down approach. Brooks Rosser, for example, took a quieter route with ‘The Climb’.
That performance led to one of the night’s most talked-about moments. Rae Boyd, who was eliminated last week, returned to the stage, but not to perform. Instead, she surprised Brooks and the audience with an announcement about their relationship. Smiling and clearly confident, she told host Ryan Seacrest, “The princess is here to claim her prince.” The reveal caught Brooks off guard, and his reaction quickly became the highlight of the episode. While that moment added a fun twist to the night, the reality of the competition soon took center stage again. Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan shared their feedback throughout the episode.
However, their opinions don't decide who moves forward. The final call comes down to the audience vote, and that can be unpredictable. Before the results were revealed, Hudson offered a few comforting words to the contestants, reminding them, “This is the start of your career.” When the votes were counted, seven contestants secured their spots in the next round. Daniel Stallworth, Keyla Richardson, Jordan McCullough, Chris Tungseth, Hannah Harper, Brooks Rosser, and Braden Rumfelt made it through. Unfortunately, that meant the journey came to an end for Lucas Leon and Kyndal Inskeep, who were eliminated. Meanwhile, the Top 7 are set to take on the Taylor Swift Night next week.
