FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA: The mother of rapper Yak Gotti, who is charged in the YSL gang indictment, was arrested on January 17 for allegedly trying to smuggle contraband into the Fulton County courtroom where her son is currently standing trial. Gotti's mother Latasha Kendrick, 51, was booked into the Fulton County Jail.

Young Thug and 13 other defendants including Yak Gotti are parties in the gang indictment. Authorities allege that Latasha and Nyesha Cox, the mother of Yak Gotti's child, put rolling papers and tobacco in the rapper's personal goods before delivering them. Latasha was arrested right away. Authorities reportedly issued a warrant to arrest Cox as well, according to WSB-TV, but she has not yet been located.

Douglas Weinstein, Kendrick's attorney, informed a deputy that he had received a text from Nyesha Cox before handing over the bag to his client. “Weinstein told the deputy he received a text from ‘D. Kendrick’s baby mother, ‘NAE,’ stating that she had placed a sealed envelope inside of the bag,” according to the affidavit.

Investigators confirmed that the envelope containing wrapping papers and tobacco goods was discovered by deputies when they inspected the bag. Deputies traveled to the eighth floor of the courthouse after finding the contraband and confronted Latasha Kendrick there. She claimed that Cox had given her the bag to present to the lawyer when questioned by detectives, denying any knowledge of the envelope. Authorities then arrested Kendrick.

Who is Yak Gotti?

Deamonte Kendrick, the rapper who performs under the name Yak Gotti, is one of 14 defendants on trial in Fulton County, including hip-hop phenom Young Thug. In the widely known and contentious YSL RICO case, Gotti is accused of many crimes, including the alleged murder of Donavan "Nut" Thomas Jr. Gotti is presently on trial, on one count of criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors say Young Thug is the leader of an illegal YSL gang, and the celebrity rapper is poised to go on trial, as reported by TMZ. Earlier, MEAWW reported Young Thug, who was arrested on RICO charges last month alongside 27 other associates, was denied bond after Judge Ural Glanville stated that he believed the rapper was a danger to the community and could intimidate witnesses if released. The Atlanta rapper, whose actual name is Jeffery Williams, watched the hearing live from Cobb County Jail.

On May 9, the 30-year-old hip-hop musician was charged in a 56-count indictment. According to the judge, Young Thug's next court appearance is scheduled for January 9, 2023. Rappers like Gunna, Yak Gotti, YSL Duke, and others were also named in a conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and participation in criminal street gang activity.
