'Percy Jackson' Season 3 will see demigods meet Disney royalty as 'Mulan' voice actress joins cast as Hera
Season 3 of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' is shaping up quite well as the series has finished casting the Twelve Olympians for its next season. The fantasy adventure series starring Walker Scobell premiered on Disney+ on December 19, 2023. It is based on Rick Riordan's seven-book series of the same name, and the show's third season is set to adapt the story of the third book, 'The Titan's Curse.' On February 19, Variety reported exclusively on the casting of three guest stars for the show's much-awaited upcoming season. Ming-Na Wen will play the Greek goddess Hera, while Jennifer Beals will appear as Demeter, and Hubert Smielecki as Apollo.
Hera is a pivotal character in the story and is the 'Queen of Olympus' and wife of Zeus. As the goddess of marriage and family, the infidelity of Zeus (Courtney B. Vance) infuriates her. Hera, who is regal and no-nonsense, is the only god besides Zeus whose children are also members of the Olympian Council, giving her considerable leverage in family politics. 62-year-old Ming-Na Wen, who is famously known for voicing the Disney Princess Mulan in the 1998 eponymous film, and its sequel, 'Mulan II,' will breathe life into the character. The actress is also known for her roles in 'The Mandalorian,' 'The Book of Boba Fett,' and Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' making fans eager to see her in an all-new avatar.
In addition to Wen, Beals will be seen as Demeter, “the goddess of agriculture, the harvest and the cycle of life and death. A respected sister of Zeus, Demeter remembers the war against the Titans very well, and will do what she must to prevent the return of her father Kronos (Nick Boraine).” Lastly, Smielecki will appear as Apollo, “the dazzling and charismatic god of the sun as well as music, poetry, archery and prophecy. The literal golden boy of Olympus and twin brother to the goddess Artemis, the moon to his sun.” Smielecki is a relative newcomer compared to the other two actors, and it will be interesting to see how he fits into the world of Percy Jackson.
'Percy Jackson' Season 3 is currently in production and is set to premiere later this year on Disney+. The first look clip of Season 3 gave fans a glimpse into Annabeth and Percy's bond as the duo is seen sharing a romantic first dance. Based on the book, the upcoming installment will also likely see Percy and his friends putting everything they have on the line to save goddess Artemis. They may also be seen confronting a powerful monster capable of bringing Olympus to its knees.
