The ending of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' was an absolute humdinger. While it left fans in a tizzy with the cliffhanger, it also revealed the potential release of season 3. The wait for the new instalment won't be much as viewers were given a surprise first look at season 3 midway through the credits. It ended with a confirmation that the series will return later this year. At the time of writing, season 3 is currently in production in Vancouver, and is based on 'The Titan's Curse', the third book of Rick Riordan’s bestseller.

Earlier, Walker Scobell, who plays the titular character, teased the third book. "I think Season 3 is … the most book-accurate season we’ve had yet, just from watching it … The book is just perfect to break up into eight episodes. So it’s just really worked out so far, and I’ve been really happy with it," he told The Direct. For those who have read the book, 'The Titan's Curse' follows Percy and his friends' mission to rescue goddess Artemis and Annabeth after being kidnapped by the Titan Atlas.

"I almost feel like there’s less pressure, because I don’t think there’s anything to really compare it to. I thought Logan Lerman had a wonderful performance as Percy Jackson, but now I’m on my own," he added in an interview with Variety.

Season 2 of the hit Disney show starred Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer. Rounding up the cast was a slew of guest stars, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman, Timothy Simons, Virginia Kull, Courtney B. Vance, Andra Day, Adam Copeland, Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, Kristen Schaal, Tamara Smart, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Toby Stephens.

Previously, reports confirmed that versatile actor Holt McCallany has been tapped for the upcoming instalment to play Titan Atlas. The iconic and formidable Titan, once denounced by Zeus and meted out the punishment of holding up the heavens, will be seen as the chief antagonist on the show's third season. TMcCallany won't simply appear as the recognizable villain on the Disney+ show in the near future, but will do so through six episodes. While a concrete release date is yet to be announced for the third season, the confirmation of the year comes as good news for fans. The second season was a massive hit, setting expectations high for a third season.

'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Disney+.
