The younger brother of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was recently at the receiving end of anti-gay slurs at Empower Field in Denver, where Kansas City beat the Broncos 28-24 on January 8. A video that has surfaced on Twitter revealed how homophobic chants were meted out at Jackson Mahomes. In the clip, someone can be heard shouting, "Hey, Ma-H–o, Ma-H–o" as the camera zooms in on Jackson in a red Chiefs jacket.

His brother's fiancée, Brittany Matthews, heard the anti-gay slurs and replied, “How rude". Jackson, however, refused to acknowledge the situation in the video. Whether or not the situation escalated or stadium security was involved is unclear.

Who is Jackson Mahomes?

Jackson Mahomes was born on May 15, 2000, and is the son of Pat Mahomes, a former MLB player. His brother, Patrick Mahomes, is a football player for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson also has a sister named Mia.

Jackson, a popular social media celebrity, sports player, YouTuber and TikToker, has often faced public criticism. Among other incidents, he upset fans in October last year when he posted a video of himself dancing on top of Sean Taylor's memorial logo. He later took to Twitter to apologize, saying, "I want to sincerely apologize for accidentally being on the Sean Taylor #21 at FedEx Field. We were directed to stand in that area and I meant absolutely no disrespect to him or his family."

What is social media saying?

Social media users condemned the incident, with one saying, "There’s lots of reasons to dislike Jackson Mahomes. He acts arrogant, entitled, and egotistical. His sexuality (idek what it is) isn’t one of them." "Its crazy man cuz Jackson Mahomes did nothing wrong right there and people justify this because they dislike him," another user commented. One user commented, "I’m not the biggest Jackson Mahomes fan but this is so weird, uncalled for, and straight up offensive. Jackson was minding himself and degrading one for their sexuality (Jackson has also said he’s straight in the past) is so childish and offensive. Grow up."

"As a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, I am disgusted by this. I am so sorry. No one should be treated like that. My sincere apologies to Jackson Mahomes. This is not who we are in Denver," one user wrote. Another said, "The hate on @brittanylynne8 and @jacksonmahomes is insane. Like I can’t imagine what these folks do in their spare time to make them so perfect to judge others."
