'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 returned with its penultimate episode, titled 'The Hateful Darkness,' on April 28 on Disney+. After Vanessa Fisk's (Ayelet Zurer) death and Karen Page's (Deborah Ann Woll) arrest in episode 6, both Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), are on a collision course with fatal consequences. The latest chapter in the Murdock vs. Fisk saga finds both men going to extreme lengths to get the upper hand in their fight. This week, another major character bites the dust as the narrative builds towards an epic showdown between good and evil. The episode has a runtime of 44 minutes, making it the shortest episode of this season. It is written by Heather Bellson and directed by Iain B. MacDonald.

In episode 7 of 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2, Karen is taken into custody and held up in a holding cell, where Mayor Fisk visits her. His threats to put her on trial in front of his kangaroo court fail to have the intended effect. Fisk hopes to make a public spectacle out of her to deter other vigilantes. He sends the therapist Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva), who is making her slow descent into Muse, to assess her before the trial. Heather, Matt's former lover, tweaks Karen's answers to make her look unhinged, but Matt has other plans to protect his lady love. During the trial, he appears in court, declaring, "Matthew Murdock for the defense, your honor." That's right! The horned vigilante makes his first public appearance since going into hiding at the end of Season 1.

Furthermore, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is seen confronting Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard) for sending the Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) to her house in last week's episode. Their interaction also confirms what comic fans have known all along: Jessica is with Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and he is the father of her daughter, Danielle. Furthermore, Cage is overseas working on Charles' secret superhero project. "Don’t forget, I’m the only one who can connect you with Luke… [He’s] overseas, doing the lord’s work," he taunts Jones. Whether Cage returns to the city in time to help Matt take down Fisk in next week's finale is anyone's guess.

The other part of their conversation reveals that Charles suspects Fisk may be planning to kill the New York state Governor, Marge McCaffrey (Lili Taylor). The governor is disillusioned with Fisk's corruption and stronghold over the city, and wants him out of office. Jessica passes on the message to Matt, who decides to involve Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) in saving Marge's life. Matt asks the skilled assassin, who is holed up in the church, to save a life in exchange for taking a life (his friend Foggy Nelson's). Bullseye, who is seeking redemption for his past actions, does exactly that. He saves Marge from an attack in Albany. So is he Matt's ally now?

After confirming that BB Urich (Genneya Walton) is the mole responsible for exposing Fisk's corruption to the city, the deputy mayor, Daniel Blake (Michael Gandolfini), swiftly informs the Kingpin's fixer, Buck Cashman (Arty Froushan). The two devise a plan to get the journalist to a safe house and kill her. Daniel drives BB to the location under the guise of protecting her, but changes his mind at the last minute as his love for her compels him to spare her life. He hands BB his phone and orders her to run as far away as possible. When Buck realizes what Daniel has done, he does not hesitate for a second to beat up his good friend before shooting him dead. Catch the 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 finale next Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT only on Disney+.
