'Daredevil: Born Again' 2 Episode 6 Recap: Matt and Fisk finally come face-to-face and things get intense
'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Episode 6 marked a turning point in Daredevil's fight against Mayor Wilson Fisk. The latest chapter in the crime drama, titled 'Requiem,' aired on April 21 on Disney+. Directed by Angela Barnes, the episode is co-written by Devon Kliger and Jesse Wigutow. Following Vanessa's death in Episode 5, Mayor Fisk goes all out and arms his anti-vigilante task force with military-grade weapons to instill even more fear in the hearts of citizens. The episode marks Jessica Jones's entry as Murdock's ally in his resistance against Fisk's unchecked control over the city. With two episodes left before the finale, Matt and Fisk face off in an intense fight.
The episode begins with Vanessa's surgeon, Dr. Merati, trying to console Wilson by assuring him that she's in a better place. When he invites him for a hug, the mayor snaps his spine, effectively killing him on the spot. The Kingpin copes with his wife's death the only way he knows: by creating more chaos. He sends the smuggled weapons from the CIA to his anti-vigilante task force, allowing them to crack down harder on the citizens of New York. When Mr. Charles learns about the weapons, he convinces Governor Marge McCaffrey to withdraw her support of the Mayor. Moreover, Marge seems keen for Sheila Rivera, Fisk's mayoral campaign director, to take over from Fisk.
The AVTF barges into a suburban home where a young girl is seen playing with her toys. Viewers soon learn that the young girl is named Danielle as her mother, Jessica Jones, comes to her rescue. The superhero makes her debut in an incredible fashion as she singlehandedly takes on the officers. Jones had stepped away from the vigilante game for a while to deal with the PTSD caused by her long-term abuse at the hands of Kilgrave. She runs her own detective agency in the city and lives a quiet life with her daughter. But after her daughter's safety is put in danger, Jones reaches out to Murdock to join his resistance efforts against Fisk.
She informs the horned vigilante of the attack and reveals that Fisk is in cahoots with government agencies like the CIA. Murdock also learns that the CIA operative Mr. Charles has been assembling superheroes for a covert operation, which she refused to join. Could he be working for the CIA director, Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)? Since giving birth to Danielle, Jones' powers have been inconsistent. This causes issues when the duo teams up to raid the warehouse storing the Kingpin's military-grade weapons. However, Jessica’s powers flare up in the middle of the attack, blowing up the warehouse.
At Vanessa's funeral, Fisk, dressed in all white, places a rose on his wife's casket. Meanwhile, Buck tells Daniel to check BB Urich's loyalty by feeding her false information to see if she leaks it to the press. To check if she's a mole, Daniel informs the journalist that Mayor Fisk won't be running for reelection. BB comes close to passing on the message, but she changes her mind after they almost share a kiss. However, Daniel ends up finding the SD card with evidence of Fisk's crimes in her coat pocket, leaving her fate uncertain.
Elsewhere, Matt and Karen Page are at odds about what to do with Bullseye. Karen is upset over Matt's decision to keep his enemy alive despite Bullseye himself pleading for death. She takes out her gun and aims it at Dex, but Matt stops her in time. Meanwhile, individuals gather at City Hall to protest against Fisk, but the scene quickly turns into a full-blown riot after Karen broadcasts confessions about Fisk’s prison. Attention then shifts to the AVTF's Connor Powell, who had discovered earlier that his fellow officer, Saunders, was working with Daredevil and Karen Page to take down Fisk. He takes advantage of the chaos and kills Saunders in public, blaming his death on the protestors, and also arrests Karen at gunpoint.
At the end of Episode 6, Murdock pays a visit to Mayor Fisk, and the two men come face-to-face for the first time in Season 2. The protagonist makes him an offer: both of them should leave New York City before the place descends further into chaos. Unsurprisingly, the Kingpin refuses, and an intense fight breaks out. Matt knocks down his rival, but Fisk lets out an evil laugh, fully aware that Daredevil can't kill him due to his moral code.
