LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mexican pop diva Gloria Trevi is again dragged into her haunting past, marred with sexual assault accusations. In a new lawsuit, the singer is accused of allegedly raping, beating, and banning several young girls from seeing family and friends. It comes amid a 2019 California law that allows opening a three-year ‘lookback window’ for claims of child sexual abuse. Those cases that would have been otherwise barred by the statute of limitations are the ones that this law addresses. Since most of the alleged abuse took place in the United States, the plaintiffs can file the lawsuit in the country.
The lawsuit claims that the 54-year-old recruited underage girls with the conspiracy to run a sex ring. Her former partner Andrade is accused of raping the women, while Trevi and the choreographer are held responsible for acting as his accomplices. As per the lawsuit, one of the two victims Jane Doe 1 was 15 years old when she went with her mother and sisters to an event in Mexico City in the hopes of meeting her idol Gloria Trevi. It alleges that Jane Doe I was dancing with a group of fans outside of Andrade’s office, when Trevi, then aged 23, invited her to an on-the-spot audition. That’s where the 15-year-old met the producer for the first time. After that encounter, she was inducted into the academy.

The filing says, “The first months were uneventful, but one day in late 1991 or early 1992, Trevi visited the teen and told her that Andrade was ‘extremely upset’ that she had formed a friendship with one of the musicians in the band and wanted to kick her out of the academy. “I don’t want you to go, you need to go talk to [Andrade], do whatever is necessary, whatever he asks of you […] because I want you to stay,” Trevi reportedly told her, as per the filing. Andrade told Jane Doe 1 that ‘if she wanted to stay in the group, she had to have sexual intercourse with him.’ That was the first occasion when Andrade allegedly coerced Jane Doe 1 into sex. As per the record, he was 36 years old at the time, while the victim was just 16.
In an interview with EL PAIS, Trevi claimed to be just another victim of Andrade and said she doesn’t blame the girls for accusing her. “I’m not angry with the girls who said things about me because I know that they have suffered. I saw them suffer and I knew that they were under great pressure from the media, their family, society,” she then said. Responding to a fresh lawsuit, Trevi wrote on her Instagram, “Being a victim of physical and sexual abuse is one of the worst things that can happen to a human being. I say it, and I know it because I am a survivor. And, my thoughts go out to anyone who, like me, has ever been the victim of any kind of abuse.” Before adding, “But I will not remain silent while I am unfairly accused of crimes I did not commit. These false accusations, which were first made against me 25 years ago, have been tried in various courts and, in all instances, I have been completely acquitted.”
Trevi further said, “For these old, disproven claims to resurface now is tremendously painful for me and all my family. The accusations were false when they were made and remain false today.” Gloria Trevi married producer Sergio Andrade in 1998, before splitting in 2005. Her last public relationship was with Armando Gomez, a lawyer, with whom she shares two children.
