Who is Gilbert Gottfried's wife? How a chance meeting led Dara Kravitz to the love of her life
Comedian Gilbert Gottfried died aged 67, his family has announced. Gottfried's longtime friend and publicist Glenn Schwartz said he died at 2.35 pm on Tuesday, April 12, from recurrent ventricular tachycardia due to myotonic dystrophy type II. Gottfried's representative said in a statement that he became known as 'the comedian's comedian' "because his live performances put aside political correctness while he delivers jokes that know no boundaries."
The Gottfried family took to Twitter to announce his death. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness," the family wrote. "In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilber's honor."

Late comedian Gottfried performed stand-up comedy for over 50 years. He is known for his roles in films like 'Beverly Hills Cop II', 'Problem Child', 'Look Who's Talking II', and 'The Aristocrats', and was also the voice of the parrot Iago in Disney's animated film 'Aladdin'. In 2017, he was the subject of the documentary 'Gilbert'. He is known for co-hosting a podcast called 'Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast!' where he, along with Frank Santopadre, interviewd Hollywood legends.
Gottfried is survived by his wife Dara Kravitz, and their children, Lily and Max. He also left behind a sister, Karen, and a nephew, Graham.
Who is Dara Kravitz?
Dara, 52, reportedly completed university and subsequently moved on to become a records producer. She has worked with record labels such as MCA Records and Geffen Records. She reportedly helped produce Gottfried’s 'Colossal' podcast.
Dara first met Gottfried at a Grammy Awards party at Tavern on the Green. Reports say that at the party, Dara dropped food on the table, and Gottfried “picked it up and put it on his plate.” “I looked at him, like, ‘Who is this guy?’” Dara said. “He looked sad and lost and childlike. I thought he was adorable.” The two got married in 2007.
Lily was born in 2007, and Max in 2009. “My daughter, she’s on TikTok,” Gottfried had earlier said of his daughter. “So she got me on TikTok, I have no idea what it is. I’m like talking to somebody’s grandmother about TikTok. And she’ll say, ‘I want you to do this little dance step,’ which, of course, I can never do. So I was already making stuff with her, and [the video] was like the next step.” Theor son Max is reportedly friends with magician Penn Jilette’s son, Zolton.
