Who is Cat Witch? ‘The Masked Singer’ 14 panel finally learns identity of ‘America’s Insider’
There was something a little different about Cat Witch from the very beginning of ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14. That’s because the audience knew who was under the mask from the premiere episode itself, but the panel didn’t. Behind the Cat Witch mask was Kylie Cantrall, best known to younger audiences for her role in Disney’s 'Descendants' universe. Her participation wasn’t exactly kept a secret. While this could be considered a spoiler, it was all part of the plan. She wasn’t just another contestant trying to dodge guesses from the panel, as she had an extra role to play as ‘America’s Insider’.
This basically meant she had one foot inside the competition and the other outside, sharing glimpses of the process while still competing in a disguise. In a social media clip ahead of the premiere, she teased her role. “For literally the first time ever, I’m gonna be bringing you guys in on the entire process as I bring you behind-the-scenes,” she revealed. “I’ll be working for you and sharing my strategy to throw off Nick [Cannon], Robin [Thicke], Jenny [McCarthy], Ken [Jeong], and my on-screen mom Rita [Ora]. They have no idea this is happening. It’s the biggest secret ever!”
What made her role even more ironic was her connection to Rita Ora, who sits on the judging panel and also stars in the ‘Descendants’ franchise. In it, Ora plays the Queen of Hearts, the mother of Cantrall’s character Red. So there they were, technically part of the same fictional family in one universe, but on this stage, Ora had no idea she was critiquing someone she already knew. Fast forward to the finale, and Cat Witch had two big moments to make a final impression. She stepped onto the stage first with a performance of ‘Leave (Get Out)’ by JoJo, and then returned later with ‘Greedy’ by Tate McRae.
The finale saw her compete alongside Galaxy Girl, Pugcasso, and Crane, as they all chased that Golden Mask trophy. Crane was the first to be eliminated in the final round and revealed as Normani. Then, Cat Witch was finally unmasked to the judges as Cantrall. Pugcasso and Galaxy Girl moved on as the final two. After one last round of performances, Pugcasso was unmasked as Phillip Phillips, leaving Galaxy Girl to take the win. Under that final mask was Ashlee Simpson, who was officially crowned the Season 14 champion.
