As Russia continues to invade and capture Ukraine’s major cities, the President of the Eastern European country has expressed his fear for his children’s lives. Last week during an address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly said: “According to the information we have, the enemy has marked me as target No 1, my family as target No 2. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state.”

Zelenskyy’s address came after the US informed him about the threats from Putin’s troops. Representative Adam B Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said: “We have been making [Zelensky] aware not only of the threat of Russian invasion, now a reality, but also the threat to him personally. We stand ready to assist him in any way.”

However, when the US offered its help to Zelenskyy in evacuating the country, he refused it and chose to stay for his people. He also said, “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride. Ukrainians are proud of their President.”

Who are Volodymyr Zelenskyy's children?

Zelenskyy shares two kids with his wife Olena Zelenska whom he married in 2003. Their children are – a 17-year-old daughter, named Aleksandra and a 9-year-old son, called Kiril. The whole family lives in Ukraine and even after Russia’s invasion, they have not left their homeland. The 44-year-old leader recently said: “I will stay in the capital. My family is also in Ukraine. My children are also in Ukraine. My family is not traitors. They are the citizens of Ukraine. But I have no right to say where they are now.”

Along with Zelenskyy, his wife, who is the first lady of Ukraine, has also shown a lot of courage while handling the crisis. A few days ago, she took to Instagram to share her feelings while writing, “My dear people! Ukrainians! I'm looking at you all today. Everyone I see on TV, on the streets, on the Internet. I see your posts and videos. And you know what? You are incredible!”

She continued: “I am proud to live with you in the same country! It is said that many people are a crowd. This is not about us. Because many Ukrainians are not crowds. This is an army!” before adding: “And today I will not have panic and tears. I will be calm and confident. My children are looking at me. I will be next to them. And next to my husband. And with you. Love you! I love Ukraine.”

Zelenskyy and Zelenska are quite open about their family life. Last year, the president spoke about his daughter and expressed his hope that she would study in Ukraine only when she goes to college. He had said: “Only here, because I am a president of no other state but Ukraine. This is my wish, and we have agreed on that. However, it is difficult for her because she could study without any security guards if she studied abroad. As far as I know, she will study in the sphere of international relations; she wants to engage in the international economy.”
