Dr Now was shocked to see Megan Davis for the first time in 'My 600-lb Life'
Since her father resided 30–45 minutes away at a facility that was too distant for her to get to, Megan never ever got to see him; according to her Facebook account, he passed away. Nevertheless, the two-day journey to Dr Now's office inspired her.
She saw the outside world for the first time in years, escaping the walls of her mother's home. When she came to his Houston office, Dr Now was taken aback by her state of health.
He said, "It's shocking to see so many medical issues in someone so young," referring to her several ailments and the twelve daily pills she needed to take. During a subsequent visit, he said, "Some of the medications you are on (are) typically taken by people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s."
Megan realized that her current state of health could not continue. "I know my health is really bad now because the more I move, my breathing gets worse and worse," she stated.
Furthermore, she had always envisioned herself working as a pediatric nurse, but her weight prevented her from obtaining any positions requiring her to be mobile.
What happened to Megan Davis in 'My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?'
Megan had an extremely windy and drawn-out journey. Even though her mother wasn't making any changes to her own poor diet, she gradually made the decision to accept responsibility for the foods she chose and was able to regularly lose weight.
After three months, Megan shed fourteen pounds. A few months later, at the following check-up, her weight had dropped to 558 pounds.
"You still haven't made much of a change in your eating habits, and that's the issue right now," the doctor said.
Megan and her mother came to Houston after Dr Now informed her she needed to be serious about getting approved for surgery. At her subsequent weigh-in, she had dropped 37 pounds, making her 84 pounds lighter overall since the program began.
"You've at least stayed consistent," Dr Now said.
"If you lose 30 more and get down to 500," Dr Now said, "to show us your body is healthy enough for weight-loss surgery, we will move ahead with that." The patient accepted the arrangement.
Megan's health problems meant that even a year and a half after her first appointment with Dr Now, she was still not quite ready for surgery. But, as we discovered in 'My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?' Season 9, Episode 5, Megan was finally eligible for surgery after completing the program for a full year and a half.
Megan decided she wanted to return to Illinois a year and eight months into the program after Dr Now performed a gastric sleeve on her.
