CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: David Miscavige is currently Scientology church's leader. He was also, famously, Tom Cruise's best man at his wedding to Katie Holmes. But the most sinister detail about him is that he is husband to fellow Scientologist Michele "Shelly" Diane Miscavige, who has reportedly been ‘missing’ since 2007. Her disappearance is now the subject of a trafficking lawsuit.

Michele Miscavige attended her father's burial in August 2007, and then she mysteriously vanished. It has been more than a  decade since she disappeared with no clues about how or why she vanished and has contacted nobody since then.

Where is David Miscavige's wife?

Michele Miscavige's disappearance is still a mystery; however, in 2019, Magzter claimed that the 58-year-old was seen exiting a Scientology cruise ship in the Caribbean in mid-December, proving that she may be still alive.

A middle-aged woman with curly hair, who the US publication National Enquirer claims had a "striking resemblance" to Shelly, was seen getting off the Freewinds and was reportedly seen being "hustled" into a waiting blacked-out Mercedes, according to an onlooker.

Shelly's behavior changed before her disappearance when David began attending gatherings without her — she reportedly appeared uneasy and suspicious, and then in 2007, she mysteriously vanished. After her disappearance, Scientologist Leah Remini, who left the cult-like religion in 2013, immediately filed a missing person's report. However, the case was closed within hours.

To this day, it is unknown what happened to Shelly Miscavige. Though rumors circulate that she was transported to one of the organization's hidden camps, Scientology representatives assert that their leader's wife is simply hiding out. The Los Angeles Police Department, which was called in to investigate her disappearance, similarly found that no investigation was required.

Shelly Miscavige's career

Shelly Miscavige is known as the "First Lady of Scientology." Before her marriage, she was the de facto leader of the cult. In fact, Shelly spent most of her infancy on Hubbard's ship, the Apollo, in that capacity. Shelly began working for Hubbard's Sea Org as a member of the Commodore's Messengers Organization when she was 12 years old.

Shelly Miscavige's early life and marriage

Shelly married David in December 1982, shortly after he took over as leader of Scientology. She assisted her husband in most church matters and eventually became his official assistant when he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Scientology's Religious Technology Center.

She was born on January 18, 1961, in Dallas, Texas. Her parents, Maurice Elliott Barnett and Mary Florence Barnett, were members of the Church of Scientology, and she had an older sister named Clarisse. When she was a child, her father, a handyman, divorced her mother. Her mother (and David Miscavige's mother-in-law), Mary Florence 'Flo' Barnett, died on September 8, 1985, as per Najianews. Though her death was deemed a suicide, there are lingering questions about her demise as she was found with four gunshot wounds — three to the chest and one to the head. And that is another mystery linked to the leader of the Church of Scientology.
