Jason Sudeikis’ Emmy-winning show ‘Ted Lasso’ sets Season 4 premiere date, releases first teaser
It won't be long before 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 sees Jason Sudeikis' titular character hit the pitch. Apple TV made a major announcement on Tuesday, dropping the release date and the first teaser of the Emmy-winning comedy. The fourth season premieres August 5 as Ted returns to London to coach AFC Richmond’s women’s team. The streamer unveiled a surprise new image for fans alongside the teaser. The latest comes on the heels of a Season 4 order last year, in March, following speculation about the show's future. Season 3 closed the storyline of Ted coaching the Richmond men’s team.
The teaser shows Ted getting back into action in London alongside the Richmond women. The returning and new cast members share a quick second of screentime. Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift reprise their roles from previous seasons. Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely are the new faces. The clip also sees Andrea Anders as Ted's ex-wife, Michelle. The highlight comes when Ted is given an NSFW welcome from one of the fans: "Welcome back, Coach. Too bad you’re coaching a bunch of girls… Ya w***er." The new season comprises 10 episodes.
The logline reads, "Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would." Jack Burditt joins Season 4 as the EP alongside Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Goldstein, who plays soccer star Roy Kent in the show, also doubles up as a writer and exec producer alongside Leann Bowen. Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh.
Sasha Garron serves as the co-producer. Julia Lindon will write for the upcoming season, while Dylan Marron is tapped as the story editor. In related news, Waddingham had previously hinted about the show's August release. Speaking with Deadline on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards, she offhandedly dropped a release window for Season 4. "August, I think,” she said, then quickly glanced off to the side and asked, "Am I allowed to say August?" She then added, "What if I’m wrong?" While the wait continues, fans have enough time to catch up on Seasons 1-3 streaming on Apple TV+
