'Imperfect Women' trailer teases dark mystery behind Kate Mara's character and honestly it has rattled us
Kate Mara, Elisabeth Moss, and Kerry Washington are friends with dark, twisted secrets, one of which results in one of them dying. Apple TV's latest crime drama stars the marquee trio in 'Imperfect Women', with the trailer released earlier today. The eight-episode show premieres on the streamer March 18. Based on Araminta Hall's thriller novel of the same name, 'Imperfect Women' follows three friends whose long-standing relationship is shattered following Mara's sudden and mysterious death. The official synopsis reads, "The unconventional thriller explores guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably. As the investigation unfolds, so does the truth about how even the closest friendships may not be what they seem."
The trailer begins with a picture-perfect friendship between the three. What follows is the terrible news of death, and the world of the other two friends is turned upside down. What follows is a detailed investigation and darker truths that stain not just their friendship, but also question their identity. The sequences hint at betrayal, lies, a possible torrid affair, and the grim realization for Moss and Washington that their friend had secrets that were meant to remain hidden. Additional cast includes 'Altered Carbon' star Joel Kinnaman, Corey Stoll, Leslie Odom Jr., Audrey Zahn, Jill Wagner, Rome Flynn, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Violette Linnz, Indiana Elle, Jackson Kelly, Keith Carradine, Ana Ortiz, Wilson Bethel, and Sherri Saum. Moss, Washington, and showrunner Annie Weisman also serve as EPs.
Ahead of the trailer's release, Washington teased the show during an interview with ET. "I think it’s definitely your next watercooler, big-moment, everyone’s-talking-about-it show, I think, I hope," she said. "It’s about friendship, about what you do when the worst possible thing happens in a friendship and what you discover about each other as the relationships unravel." In related news, Moss will be seen in David Shore's legal thriller 'Conviction'. Hulu has greenlit the series order for the drama based on Jack Jordan's 2023 book of the same name. The series follows criminal Defense Attorney Neve Harper (Moss) as she finally lands a case that makes her career. The case follows a high-profile murder where the husband is the main accused in his wife's murder. However, things begin to unravel for Harper when she starts getting blackmailed by a mysterious stranger. The rest of the series sees her grapple with making the right decision or operating in the gray.
As for Mara, 'The Martian' star has a project in post-production. She will be seen in 'Bucking Fastard' alongside Rooney Mara, Orlando Bloom, and Domhnall Gleeson. The film's logline reads, "Twin sisters Jean and Joan Holbrooke, in search of an imaginary land where true love is possible, start digging a tunnel through a mountain range." Washington will appear in the Ben Affleck-helmed 'Animals'. She will star alongside Affleck, Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Matt Gerald, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Steven Yeun. 'Imperfect Women' releases March 18, with two episodes. Subsequent episodes drop on Wednesdays through April 28.
