New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ rumor claims Doctor Doom's true MCU enemy isn't the one fans expect
Now that filming for 'Avengers: Doomsday' has ended, fifteen months ahead of its December 2026 release, the rumour mills are rife with theories on the upcoming MCU instalment. Among recent rumors, one that stands out claims that Pedro Pascal's Mr. Fantastic might not be the one Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom would be battling in the upcoming 'Avengers' flick, Heroic Hollywood reported.
Marvel confirmed earlier this year at the San Diego Comic-Con that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the superhero franchise as Doctor Viktor Von Doom. In true Marvel style, the reveal itself was quite dramatic, setting the stage for what might follow in the actual movie. Similarly, ComicBookMovie.com recalled that when Marvel previously announced the cast for the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday', the four-hour event ended with chairs for chairs for Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal. This led many fans of the franchise to believe that the relationship between Doctor Doom and Reid Richards would come to play a prominent role in the days to come.
As per a now-deleted X post from leaker @variablelace, much of the central conflict of 'Avengers: Doomsday' might comprise Doctor Doom and Steve Rogers/Captain America. This was cited by @MyTimeToShine, who shared the post writing, "RDJ and Evans weren't even going to be part of The Kang Dynasty, and now they're not only back but will be the main focus of Doomsday. Marvel really needs to let go of the past and move on."
Faced with this surprising rumour, it does seem that Doom would travel to Earth-616 to exact revenge on Steve Rogers, as the latter is to blame for messing up the timeline and virtually causing the Incursion that led to the destruction of Doom's world. Fuelled by rage and a desire for retribution, Doom would then have nothing to fall back upon as Captain America's decision to happily reunite with Peggy Carter by going back in time literally wreaked havoc for him.
All in all, Doom is poised to be the strongest MCU villain to date, as opined by The Direct. Doom not only commands significant scientific prowess but effortlessly wields huge reservoirs of magical powers. He is the embodiment of Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Strange combined into a single entity that is anything but benign. The rest of the confirmed cast of 'Avengers: Doomsday' includes Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, and Hannah John-Kamen. The film is set to hit theatres on December 18, 2026.
