Sydney Sweeney cameo scrubbed from 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' — Here's why it didn't make the cut
Sydney Sweeney fans waiting to catch a glimpse of the 'Euphoria' star in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' will be disappointed. Her cameo has been cut from the highly anticipated film. The buzz of her reported appearance garnered steam when Sweeney was photographed last year while heading to the set of the cult classic's sequel. The second installment stars Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt in major roles. The latest, however, comes as a dampener with the actress who was slated to add more star power to the already-stacked cast.
Per Entertainment Weekly, a source confirmed the scrub to the outlet. Citing it as a "creative decision," the reportedly three-minute-long appearance will no longer be part of the film. The source added that Andy Sachs (Hathaway) reunites with her former Runway colleagues, Miranda Priestly (Streep) and Nigel Kipling (Tucci), and the trio seeks Emily Charlton's (Blunt) help to save the fashion magazine from a scandal. This was the sequence that would have seen Sweeney playing herself while Emily dresses a celebrity client. The source said the scene didn't fit with the rest of the sequence, and while the team was grateful for Sweeney's role, the decision was tough. As for other cameos, EW added that Lady Gaga will appear. The original stars of the first film, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman, will also reprise their roles.
The new additions this time include Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, Patrick Brammall, Rachel Bloom, and Kenneth Branagh. The logline reads, "Andy returns to Runway as Miranda Priestly navigates a new media landscape and Runway's position within it. They reconnect with another former assistant, Emily, who is now the head of a luxury brand that possesses funding which could ensure Runway's survival." Director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman were all tapped to return to work on the sequel.
At the time of writing, two new trailers have been released ahead of the film's May 1 release. As for Sweeney, the 'Anyone, But You' star will next be seen in 'Euphoria' Season 3. The upcoming third episode will focus on her character, Cassie, and her marriage to Nate (Jacob Elordi), but fans familiar with the show and Cassie know chaos isn't far off for Sweeney's character. 'Euphoria' Season 3 drops a new episode on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
