Season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is just around the corner and we cannot wait to see the umbrellas go against the sparrows this time around. Netflix is returning after a lengthy hiatus of almost two years and it seems a lot has happened after returning from the 1960s. In the past two seasons, we have seen the Hargreeves siblings doing everything to avoid the apocalypse in the future by changing the ‘60s.

Interestingly, their mission was a success and while returning to the present time they realized that they messed up the timeline pretty badly. Luther, Diego, Klaus, Allison, Five, and Viktor discover that an alternative timeline has been created and things look pretty different in this timeline. The ‘Umbrella Academy’ is now the ‘Sparrow Academy’ and is being led by one of the former members of the Umbrella Academy, Ben. This comes as a shock to everyone because Ben mysteriously died in Season 2 of the Netflix series.

'The Umbrella Academy' review: Season 1 takes us back in time, but what does it spell for the future of the series?

The trailer for Season 3 sees Five telling everyone that they have accidentally summoned a “kugelblitz” while creating a time paradox. Viktor asks him what is a kugelblitz, and his brother merely replies “Essentially, we are screwed”. So, what is a kugelblitz? Does it mean anything? Let’s find out.

In the world of Astrophysics ‘Kugelblitz’ has a very deep meaning

According to Astrophysics, Kugelblitz is a phenomenon that actually takes place in the real world. The word refers to a “black hole” created when an incredible mass of energy is trapped within itself, warping time and space. Mankind doesn’t have the resources to create a black hole like that because it would require a gamma-ray laser 1 billion times stronger than the current hypothesized ones. And even if one day, a Kugelblitz like this is made by man, then it would last for five years and a device like the Dyson sphere would need to be constructed around it to harness the energy by the Hawking Radiation.

In the context of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ 2019 now contains two iterations of the Luther, Diego, Allison, Five, Klaus, and Viktor. Five believes that this is an unnatural phenomenon and could be the reason why “kugelblitz” came into existence. This means, that as long as the people from Umbrella Academy remain in the Sparrow timeline, the Kugelblitz will continue to destroy reality.

The trailer also suggests that the group only has a week to contain the situation or else, Kugelbltiz will destroy everything.

In Season 2, the group managed to put an end to the nuclear holocaust, but it looks like the Hargreaves siblings are going to have their most dangerous mission yet. Additionally, the Sparrow Academy will also pose some threats to the group initially. So, they are surrounded by problems and they don’t have any idea how to get away from them.

All the original cast members are returning for the third edition including Elliot Page (Viktor), Aidan Gallagher (Five), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castaneda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), and Justin H. Min (Ben Hargreeves).

The third season of the highly popular show will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Wednesday, June 22.
