Tourist inadvertently films own death as he plunges to ground after zipline collapses in freak accident
ARACATI, BRAZIL: A tourist vacationing in Brazil fell to his death on Oct 10, 2022, after a zipline ride took a nasty turn. Harrowing footage has emerged showing the incident from not one but two different angles, up to the moment 39-year-old Sergio Murilo Lima de Santana met his tragic end.
One of the videos was shot by De Santana himself as he climbed the zipline. He was wearing a bright green T-shirt and seemed to be having a great time as he picked up his cell phone to take a selfie video, cheering and jeering. Everything seemed to be going well until the camera suddenly lost focus and began to shake violently. That was the moment when the pole supporting the cable collapsed and De Santana fell into the sand. Then the screen goes black.

Another video of the same incident shows the tragedy from a different angle. De Santana's partner was standing to the side, filming his adventure from the ground. The video again shows De Santana sliding down the zipline and calmly gliding over the sand dunes. Suddenly, the pole to which the rope was attached seemed to collapse, causing the zipline and De Santana, who was riding it, to crash to the ground with a loud bang. The video clearly shows how the support structure of the zipline loses its shape, leading to a terrible accident that takes the life of one man.
De Santana and his partner had been staying at the Canoa Quebrada resort in Aracati on the coast of the state of Ceará. Rescue workers were quickly on the scene and took him to a local hospital, but he was immediately pronounced dead, according to reports in the New York Post. According to media reports, Aracati authorities have banned all ziplining in the city following this freak accident. Police have also launched an investigation into the Canoa Quebrada resort and the circumstances surrounding the tourist's fatal accident. Officials added that the faulty zipline that led to De Santana's death was last inspected in March of this year.
