Last month, Blumhouse and Amazon Prime Video announced eight new genre films that will be heading to the streaming service under the ‘Welcome to Blumhouse’ banner. The films will arrive in two parts -- this year and next year. The first slate of four films kicks off with two titles, ‘The Lie’, written and directed by Veena Sud, and Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr.‘s ‘Black Box’.

‘The Lie’, a remake of the 2015 German film ‘We Monsters’, follows a family torn to pieces after their teenage daughter confesses to a horrible crime. According to the official synopsis given by Amazon, "When their teenaged daughter confesses to impulsively killing her best friend, two desperate parents attempt to cover up the horrific crime, leading them into a complicated web of lies and deception."

But it’s not just the film’s plot that intrigues. The cast is an amazing one as well. Let’s take a look at who is playing what:

The 45-year-old American actor made her acting debut in the 1994 television film ‘Without Consent’. Enos graduated in performing arts from Brigham Young University, where she was awarded the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. After that, she played several minor roles on television, and later even in feature films. But her first moment of recognition arrived with her role as Honey in the 2005 Broadway production of ‘Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’.

Enos has worked with Sud before in AMC’s ‘The Killing’, where she played Sarah Linden, a Seattle-based police officer for the show's four seasons from 2011 to 2014. Her notable film credits include ‘World War Z’, ‘If I Stay’, ‘Never Here’, and more. On television, Enos starred in ‘The Catch’, ‘Good Omens’, and ‘Hanna’, among others.

Peter Sarsgaard as Jay

The 49-year-old American actor began his film career with the critically acclaimed ‘Dead Man Walking’. His vast career includes many notable roles. Some of the more prominent titles are ‘Another Day in Paradise’, ‘Desert Blue’. ‘The Man in the Iron Mask’, ‘Boys Don't Cry’, ‘The Center of the World’, ‘Shattered Glass’, ‘Garden State’, ‘Kinsey’, ‘The Dying Gaul’, ‘Flightplan’, ‘Orphan’, ‘Knight and Day’, ‘Green Lantern’, ‘Lovelace’, ‘Black Mass’, and more.

Sarsgaard too has worked with Sud in the past in the American TV series ‘The Killing’, as a man on death row.

Joey King as Kayla

The 21-year-old American actor found fame with her role as Ramona Quimby in ‘Ramona and Beezus’. But her most notable role has been in ‘The Kissing Booth’ and its 2020 sequel.

King has also appeared in the films ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, ‘The Conjuring’, ‘White House Down’, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’, and more. King received critical acclaim for her starring role in the crime drama series ‘The Act’.

“Joey is capable of an immense range -- she can go from a sweet rom-com heroine all the way to a troubled, co-dependent, murderous teen in the blink of an eye,” Sud said about her role in the film. “I needed all of that in the character of Kayla, a teenage girl who kills her best friend and seems to have little remorse about it. A real high wire act for any actor but in Joey’s hands, it was so authentic, believable. She’s an immense talent and brought so much humanity to this young, troubled girl which I knew Kayla had to have to be the center of this story.”

The film also stars Cas Anvar as Sam Ifrani, Devery Jacobs as Brittany, Nicholas Lea as Detective Rodney Barnes, and Patti Kim as Detective Kenji Tagata.

‘The Lie’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13, 2018. It is scheduled to be released on October 6 only on Amazon Prime Video. ‘The Lie’ and ‘Black Box’ will be followed by ‘Evil Eye’ and ‘Nocturne’ on October 13.
