However, there's no formal confirmation of the information mentioned above and no assurance whether this information holds any ties with the case. Since the murders, countless online detectives have made similar speculative statements. However, the Moscow Police Department has kept the situation relatively quiet until now. The sealed affidavits, which have now been released, only disclose crucial authentic information about the murder case. Therefore, it's better to rely on that information.

About Kohberger's trial

On the evening of January 4, Kohberger was transferred to the Latah County Jail after being extradited from Pennsylvania to Idaho. On January 5, he made his first court appearance in Idaho. During the hearing, he chose not to enter a plea. Kohberger was also denied bail, implying he will remain incarcerated until his next court appearance on January 12. The judge, in this case, has resorted to a gag order. The Latah County Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall has ordered that neither the detectives nor the attorneys on either side should publicly speak on the current case, as reported by MEAWW.

Curcial details against Kohberger as per affidavit

Kohberger was apprehended outside his parents' home on December 30, 2022. Authorities, however, have not publicly established a link between Kohberger and the murders. Authorities gathered his DNA from the crime scene and discovered a match while going through his parents' garbage can, as per the affidavit released.

Furthermore, Mortensen, the survivor, informed authorities that she saw the masked intruder leave the house and overheard him assuring his victims, "I'm going to help you," before stabbing them to death. She was in a "frozen shock phase" when she noticed "a figure wrapped in black attire and a mask that covered the person's mouth and nose approaching toward her," as reported by MEAWW.

Mortensen described the figure as "5'10" or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows." The suspect then proceeded past her to the house's back sliding glass door and then she claimed to have locked herself in her room, as per reports. Further, investigators have confimed the fact that both surviving roommates, Mortensen and Bethany Funke, aren't to be blamed.

How Koherbger was tracked by the police?

After identifying Kohberger as a possible suspect, police discovered he had been stopped for a traffic violation in August. At the time, he gave the Moscow police his phone number. Investigators looked through cellphone records in late December to see if his phone had pinged any mobile towers close to the crime site or while traveling to and from it. As per the affidavit, suspect's  phone had been near the victims' home on at least 12 occasions before the killings, as reported by Insider.

According to reports, Kohberger's phone was also returned to the crime scene area at 9.15 am on November 13, nearly five hours after the stabbings. The police even tracked Kohberger while he was traveling to Pennsylvania from Idaho. He was halted by cops twice within nine minutes. This action was especially taken by police to take a few images of Kohbeger's hand to file concrete proof against him, as per reports.
