It's a woman's world on ‘Warrior’. For a long time now, Nellie Davenport (Miranda Raison) — a rich widow offering asylum to Chinese immigrants, including prostitutes — has been targetting Ah Toy's (Olivia Cheng) brothel.

In Episode 4 ‘If You Don't See Blood, You Didn't Come to Play’, Nellie visited Ah Toy to pick up one of the women to take to her vineyard sanctuary in Sonoma and invited Ah Toy for a visit the next morning. Mysterious and intoxicating, the magic of wine and women is similar. At the beautiful Sonoma vinery in Episode 5 ‘Not for a Drink, a F*ck, or a G**damn Prayer’, Ah Toy jogs down memory lane and takes a moment to herself. Nellie finds her in the cask room. Fighting back tears, Ah Toy tells her, “This place reminds me of my grandmother...” and tells her how they used to grow tomatoes together at the peaceful garden in China she owned.

Nellie comes closer to Ah Toy and asks her, “God you take care of so many people, Ah Toy... who takes care of you? It must be lonely.” When Ah Toy replies, “Sometimes,” Nellie looks deep into her eyes and plants a long, lingering kiss on her lips. Wait, what? Yes... It's true. Who knew the two women could have more than just a ‘winery’ connection? Will that moment change Ah Toy's heart and life?

After that scintillating moment with the two fiery ladies, it's quite possible that we could see their relationship move one step ahead. The kiss could soon lead to steamy sex in bed! And once their hearts are intertwined, Ah Toy may finally see what Nellie wants her to. As one Reddit fan said, “Story-wise, her character seems to be there to make Ah-Toy go through an inner conflict about whether or not what she's doing is really best for her people and in turn make more complex choices in her actions to support Ah Sahm.”

Based on the real-life historical feminist figure Donaldina Cameron, her character may be similar to the woman born in 1869 and immigrated from New Zealand to California when she was only three. Raised on a sheep ranch in San Gabriel Valley, she moved to the big city – San Francisco and while working as a sewing teacher at the Occidental Mission Home for Girls, she became linked to a refuge founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1874. The Home rescued Chinese women from slavery, predominantly prostitution.

Directed by Kenneth Lin, Episode 7 ‘If You Wait By The River Long Enough’ may soon show a glimpse of how Ah Toy may seek help from Nellie and give her girls a new life as it airs on November 13, 2020.
