Virginia Gov Glenn Youngkin slams 7 Fairfax schools for hoodwinking merit students to boost 'equity'

Glenn Youngkin states that there is a superintendent whose top objective is equal outcomes for all students, regardless of the price

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VIRGINIA: Republican Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is furious at seven Fairfax County schools who have admitted to withholding from their students information about whether they received the prestigious national merit recognition. These schools make up 25% of the high schools in the County. This award is given to only 50,000 of 1.5 million high-schoolers who score well on their PSATS. The merit award can help these students compete for scholarships, honors accolades, and college admissions. Youngkin called the decision to withhold such information from merit students, "maniacal." 

These high schools include Annandale High School, West Potomac High School, John R Lewis High School, Edison High School, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Westfield High School, and Langley High School. The Virgina Governor told ABC 7, "They have a maniacal focus on equal outcomes for all students at all costs. And at the heart of the American dream, is excelling, is advancing, is stretching and recognizing that we have students that have different capabilities." He continued, "Some students have the ability to perform at one level, others need more help, and we have to allow students to run as fast as they can to dream the biggest dreams they can possibly dream and then go get them." Youngkin also said, "The reality is that we have a superintendent in Fairfax schools who has explicitly stated that her top objective is equal outcomes for all students, regardless of the price."

'Schools can’t be trusted': Outrage after 7 Fairfax schools withhold national merit from students

One user said, "I went to high school in Fairfax county, graduating in '82. The faculty was already mostly left-leaning, but they still promoted effort and achievement, and would have been appalled at this kind of shit." Another user wrote, "Results need to communicated directly to the students since schools can’t be trusted." One more user wrote, "Side note: At least seven schools are now known to have withheld notifying their students of the awards in Fairfax County, as well as schools in Loudoun County. These two school districts keep popping up in the news, and not in a good way."

One user tweeted, "Smells like a systemic policy to me, or am I really to believe that seven FCPS principals decided independent of each other to delay notifications. The latter doesn't pass "the smell test". Is this "equity" to FCPS?" Another user wrote, "Fairfax county schools working hard to be the most discriminating district in America" One more user tweeted, "#SchoolChoice now. Parents and students are being hurt by political government school systems"
