MEXICO: A social media influencer gave a trained monkey access to a needle gun and allowed it to tattoo his knee. The tattoo artist who goes by the name Funky Matas only taught the animal for two hours before he allowed the inexperienced tattooist to give him a unique yet lasting tattoo. The influencer already holds a Guinness record for having the most celebrity signatures tattooed, with over 220 tattoos on his back.

The widely shared video demonstrated the monkey's reluctance to work for free and his decision to withhold displaying his creative talent until two animal trainers paid him with food. The internet celebrity claimed to have taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the monkey and everyone participating in the event, including sanitary measures, even if his most recent action did garner a lot of media attention.

The ‘monkey tattoo’

In the video, Funky Matas updates his fans about his whereabouts while he waits for a monkey-carrying vehicle to arrive in Mexico. He then goes on to explain how he intends to teach the animal his tattooing technique. “I’m here in the middle of Mexico in front of a Mcdonald’s and I’m waiting for a white van to show up with a monkey inside. I’m about to meet a monkey, teach him how to tattoo, and he’s going to tattoo me. Things happen,” he says while introducing his plan. Then a trainer and his baby monkey step out from a van that has just pulled up in front of him. The bewildered trainer informs the influencer that he won't have any luck and that the monkey won't be able to complete the assignment when he describes his ambitions to get tattooed by one. “You are telling me you want him to tattoo you. In all reality, the monkey isn’t going to tattoo you. I won’t promise you anything,” said the monkey trainer.

Two days after their meeting, Funky Matas turns up at a tattoo studio to get inked by the monkey. The monkey was instructed to hold the tattoo pen, but it simply refused. In a disclaimer statement, Funky said, “We were

skeptical at first of the monkey tattooing. The first moments indicated that he would not be tattooing me. But after sitting down with 2 monkey trainers for about an hour and teaching the monkey with different techniques involving food -” The video then shows the young monkey applying the ink onto the man's knee using the tattoo pen. “Giving new meaning to the term ‘monkey tattoo.’ I’m officially the first person in the world to get tattooed by a monkey,” the influencer penned in the caption while sharing the video.

The video precautions mentioned, “The intention with this tattoo was to create the logo of the NFTs project that I started with my partner Andy Williams, The F8 Club,” Funky Matas wrote in his post. “And while the tattoo itself wasn’t the best in terms of quality, the event was a fascinating look into the capabilities of these highly intelligent animals.” He adds, "We in no way encourage anyone to recreate or reenact what you are about to see."

'This is legendary!'

The 'monkey tattoo' video sparked a heated discussion online. While some praised Funky Matas for pushing the limits of tattooing and demonstrating to the world just how smart monkeys are, others accused him of exploiting the animal. One user said, "Only you would do something so wild." Another wrote, "This is legendary!" A third user added, "That monkey has such art, he has a future as a tattoo artist." Another commented, "Terrible, stop using primates for these crazy things."

Meanwhile, several animal lovers were up in arms. A user commented, “This is animal exploitation, so much ignorance,” while another penned, “Human stupidity they call it.” Someone else chimed in, “What a crack dude, always doing crazy things!” Another alleged, “Terrible stop using primates for these crazy things and support our conservation projects.”
