The historical fiction series launched its final and sixth season last December and we are already halfway through. Tonight, February 5, the show aired Episode 10 of Season 6 before going on a midseason break.

The episode ‘The Best Laid Plans’ makes for a significant chapter in the story of the Vikings of Norway in the 9th century. As the synopsis of the episode read: “Ivar and Igor might be planning against Oleg, but they’re still part of the force that departs Kiev to invade Scandinavia. King Harald and King Bjorn begin furious preparations for the invasion. But can enough be done to resist the Rus’ force?”

As we saw, the predicted battle between the sons of Ragnar ultimately happened. And it was massive and epic in every possible way, as well as intense. Despite allying with King Harald, the Vikings fell short of manpower and Oleg’s army outnumbered and overpowered them, causing hundreds of casualties and mayhem.

Then, in a beautifully shot scene, we saw an emotional interaction between Ivar and Bjorn Ironside. Shot with and without the battle scene in the background, the scene was powerful and touching. The two brothers were surprisingly in a calm and civilized conversation, with Ivar more self-assured, as always and Bjorn trying hard to hold onto his pride and his heritage. Without flinching, Ivar was confident about how his older brother will easily lose to him and Bjorn kept holding onto his false belief that he could outdo his brother and the huge Russian army.

And finally, the scene of the season happened. In the middle of the battlefield, while fighting everyone else, Ivar pushed a sword through Bjorn’s chest. As Bjorn fell to the ground, his mind replayed their conversation, making him feel how he lost to his brother and how he failed in carrying his father’s legacy. And thus, Season 6 Episode 10 ended and went on its best.

The show will not be back for at least another few months. Reports say it could be sometime later this year. Considering it is the final season, we can expect quite a long break. As the production team had mentioned earlier, there will be 20 episodes in the final season of ‘Vikings’. So, when the show comes back from its break, we will get to go through 10 more episodes. Now, what will ensue in the second half of Season 6, is a discussion for another time.

Meanwhile, if you are yet to catch up on the previous episodes of ‘Vikings’ Season 6, then look for reruns on the History Channel or keep reading our episode reviews and recaps.
Stay tuned as we bring you more updates.
