Video shows commuters panic as train catches fire under One World Trade Center
A subway train under One World Trade Center reportedly malfunctioned, filling the station with smoke, sending New York commuters into a panic on Monday (14th February) evening, according to officials. Despite the fact that there were no casualties, the event caused many train delays. The incident happened at a Manhattan subway station servicing an area that has previously been the target of terrorist attacks.
According to a spokeswoman for the MTA, a crew running a southbound 4 train reported hearing a loud noise followed by smoke around 7:23 p.m. local time — the train had reportedly collided with something. According to the spokesperson, there were no casualties and no fire, although smoke did infiltrate the Fulton Street Station in downtown Manhattan. However, some commuters say that a fire broke out between the tracks in their tweets about the freak incident. The reason has not yet been identified, although authorities believe it was caused by a technical fault.

One passenger wrote on Twitter, “it straight up caught on fire under us and we all evacuated in like a bit of a mob panic and we rushed out through the smoke,” in a followup tweet after writing, “Guys our 6 @MTA train at WTC just caught on fire holy fucking shittttttt.” As the train reached the station, another user reported seeing "actual flames" and sparking outside the train. His Twitter post reads, “there was smoke and chaos everywhere," while another commuter spoke up about how it took some time for the train doors to open to let the panicked people out.
