AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: The mother of World Superbikes champion Victor Steeman reportedly died from a heart attack just two days after her son tragically lost his life in a multi-rider crash during a race in Portugal.

The 22-year-old Steeman had won four Supersport 300 World Championship races this season before he died after the horrific crash at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal on Saturday, October 8. He was reportedly airlifted to a hospital in Faro, but it was confirmed on Tuesday, October 11, that he had succumbed to his injuries. The superbike community was reeling from the rider's death when it emerged that his biggest fan, his mother Flora van Limbeek, suffered a fatal heart attack just two days after losing her son.

Steeman's family shared an emotional tribute to their son in the wake of his demise. "Something you have always been afraid of as a parent of a motorcycle racer has now happened. Our Victor could not win this last race," they said in a statement, "Despite the unbearable loss and grief, we are extremely proud to share with you that our hero, through his passing, was able to save five other people by donating his organs." The statement added, "We would like to thank everyone for the way you have lived with us over the past few days. We will miss our Victor enormously."

The tragedy befell less than a week after British Superbikes rider Chrissy Rouse, 26, succumbed to head injuries he sustained after being struck by another rider in a race at England's Donington Park circuit.

That said, just two days after Steeman's death on October 11, his devastated mother reportedly suffered a suspected heart attack and passed away at the age of 59. According to a report by Racesport.nl, she died in the village of Lathum in the Netherlands.

Steeman's grieving family was forced to release another statement, this time pleading for privacy. "The Steeman family would like to process this immense grief in peace. We would therefore like to kindly but urgently ask everyone to respect this request through this message," read the statement, obtained by the Daily Mail. "The kind request is therefore not to send cards or other attention to the home address in Lathum. To give everyone the opportunity to share their grief and to support father and husband Steeman and other family in this bizarre and difficult time, we will come up with a special message about the possibilities for this later today," the family continued. "Our thoughts are with father and husband Willem, further family and loved ones in this difficult and difficult time. Words are not enough to comfort you in this great loss. We wish you a lot of strength and strength for the coming time," the statement concluded.
