Understanding 'ASMR'

ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and it refers to a tingling sensation on the scalp, neck, and other areas of the body that some people get when listening to certain audio stimuli. Sounds that trigger ASMR can include several things, for instance, whispering, tapping, and certain types of music. There are also visual ASMR stimuli which include things like watching repetitive or satisfying actions.

With creators on sites like Twitch, YouTube, and now TikTok producing their own ASMR films in a variety of ways, ASMR has emerged as a distinct genre of online content. The hashtag has received over 400 billion views, showing how well-liked ASMR is on the app. Some ASMR videos on TikTok have gone on to receive millions of views and likes.
