'Trump Inauguration' started trending on Twitter on Thursday, March 4, as social media users started mocking the popular belief of the far-right QAnon conspiracy group that former president Donald Trump will be sworn in as the leader of the country on the day after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.

While most members of QAnon could sense the difference between fantastical conspiracy theories and reality, a handful of hopefuls showed up near the US Capitol on March 4 wishing to catch a glimpse of the history-defying moment that had been touted by their leader Q in their network of false conspiracies. Before the 20th amendment of the US Constitution - adopted in 1933 - moved the swearing-in dates of the president and Congress to January, American leaders took office on March 4 and so the QAnon supporters latched on to this date.

Photos showed that they were far outnumbered by security forces deployed ahead of March 4 to prevent the federal building from riots to the likes of the insurrection that took place on January 6. The fence encircling the Capitol was being manned by National Guard troops on Thursday, March 4, after the riots earlier this year killed five people. The Capitol had been on high alert days before the imaginary inauguration was supposed to take place. The House of Representatives even canceled its session for the day. A journalist working with Reuters posted a tweet identifying some of the supporters who turned up for the event: "From left, Karyn Carson, John Carson, Lois Houser and Matthew Giannini, supporters of former President Donald Trump, stand near the security perimeter outside of the U.S. Capitol Building, hoping to see evidence of an inauguration of former President Trump. However, by noon, it became clear that America was not getting a new president for another four years. This realization did not dampen the spirits of the QAnon members who had gathered in front of the Capitol grounds. “Every day that we’re here, we’ll probably come out around noon and see if anything transpires,” Karyn Carson, 52, who had taken time off work to come from California to see Trump be inaugurated for a second term, told Reuters. “If it doesn’t happen, we’ll obviously be sad ’cause it didn’t happen while we were here, but we believe that it will happen. It just hasn’t happened yet. It may seem foolish to some people that we came all this way to see something that may or may not happen, but we don’t care."

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) took to Twitter to point out the obvious. "Sure looks like the #TrumpInauguration isn’t happening. Also, a plane struck the Pentagon on 9/11; there is no secret cabal of satan worshipping pedophiles running America; and the election was not stolen," he wrote.

Soon other reactions started to pour in with more people mocking the popular QAnon theory. "So, how’d that big #TrumpInauguration go for ya today, Q cultists? Did you take back America yet?" one of them said, while another noted, "I cant believe that he skipped his own inauguration to play golf!! LoL But then again, he skipped his whole presidency to play golf. #TrumpInauguration" A third commented, "#TrumpInauguration was cancelled due to a power outage in the Twilight Zone." One more remarked, "Wait...where is the #TrumpInauguration that was suppose to happen today? I heard one of the performers was 'G-ullible.'"

The next remarked, "Sorry Marjorie Taylor Greene, QAnon Shaman and #QAnonCult , #TrumpInauguration did not happen today, and there will be no Space 'Laser' Show! Womp Womp!" One more quipped, "#QAnonCult I hear therapy helps after you finally seperate yourself from the Cult. #TrumpInauguration #BidenIsYourPresident." A person reacted with, "I hear Rush Limbaugh is giving the benediction at the #TrumpInauguration today. Those that have heard the speech in rehearsal say he’s a little stiff, but the crowd will love it."

A commenter tweeted, "I’m sure if they wait a little bit longer that #TrumpInauguration will happen at some point before the day is over..." One more said, "Awww - he let you down again... #TrumpInauguration" Another commented, "It sort of felt like Trump was defeated all over again today #TrumpInauguration." One more said, "About this QAnon Trump inauguration, did anyone check Four Seasons Total Landscaping? #TrumpInauguration"
