As Hurricane Ida continues to rage on in Louisana, the hurricane is likely to achieve Category 5 status. Ida currently has one of the strongest landfall seen in Louisana due to its wind speed.  In an update at 8pm, Ida has now reduced to a category 3 hurricane with winds of 120 mph. It will continue to push northward, passing just west of New Orleans. While the NHC projects a sharp decline in wind speed over the next two days, rainfall will spread over a large portion of the Southeast.

At 150 mph, Ida's powerful winds have led to inland flooding and storm surges, in addition to the heavy rain. And while the hurricane continues to create chaos, there is another storm at bay -- Tropical Storm Julian. However, Tropical Storm Julian poses no threat, as reported by the National Hurricane Centre. The storm was expected to move towards the northeast and then to the north over the North Atlantic. With winds of roughly 50mph, the storm was expected to strengthen on Sunday, Aug 29 and weaken by Monday, Aug 30 making it post-tropical. Tropical Storm Julian will remain out at sea.

"In addition to Hurricane Ida, Tropical Storm Julian formed over the central Atlantic this morning. Also, Tropical Depression #10, also over the central Atlantic could become a Tropical Storm (Kate) by Tuesday. Neither Julian or TD #10 are expected to impact the U.S." tweeted the National Weather Service Eastern Region Headquarters.

While Tropical Storm Julian is not a threat, Hurricane Ida continues to wreak havoc, and it looks like the aftermath will be felt for quite a while. As reported by Bloomberg Quint, New Orleans is expected to be without power and air conditioning for roughly three weeks post-Hurricane Ida. The news outlet also said that nearly 122,000 homes and businesses across Louisiana were without power. Meanwhile, Baton Rouge continues to brave the storm, as rescue efforts are significantly delayed due to the high-intensity winds. As reported by The Advocate, Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte stated that should the winds reach 50 mph or higher, crews will refrain from taking emergency calls. "There are times, when the winds get too high, that we won't be able to respond," he explained. "It's up to the commander or supervisor in charge, but generally somewhere around 50 mph winds." he added.

As reported by the National Weather Service, the wind forecast in Baton Rouge is currently 40-50 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph. Ida is currently moving over Southeastern Louisiana, with warnings of floods. "Hurricane #Ida Advisory 15: Ida Moving Northwestward Over Southeastern Louisiana. Catastrophic Storm Surge, Extreme Winds, and Flash Flooding Continues in Portions of Southeastern Louisiana. http://go.usa.gov/W3H" tweeted National Hurricane Center, as residents are urged to stay indoors at all costs.

FEMA has also listed a range of resources on their website, all of which can be accessed via this link. In addition, the website also offers Louisiana residents storm updates via text - message "IDA" to 67283.
