NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The extravagant Empire State Building was slammed by New York netizens after the building was seen lit up in green and white on January 29 in honor of the Philadelphia Eagle's NFC Championship victory. The Empire State Building, which famously lights up to celebrate and commemorate different universal causes has allegedly, caught itself in the middle of a controversy after the New York City landmark announced it would celebrate the Philadelphia Eagle's Super Bowl berth.

The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are NFC East division rivals and especially after their Sunday, January 29, game, there's no doubt about it. The Philadelphia Eagles reached the Super Bowl on Sunday with a dominant 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Marking this victory, the Empire State Building wrote on Twitter, "Fly @Eagles Fly! We’re going Green and White in honor of the Eagles NFC Championship Victory."

'How dare they'

The fallout from the post was unsurprisingly swift, with many deeming it as an insult to the Empire State’s own New York Giants. New Yorkers who were already furious by their defeat claim to have become more enraged after seeing Empire State Buildings celebration. One user wrote, "Did y'all lose a bet," while another added, "The face of every NY Giants fan looking at the Empire State Building tonight." A third user questioned, "how dare they," while a fourth user shared a gif that read, "Traitorous!" "Trolling your own citizens is a bold choice," another user claimed.

Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports ranted, "How lame is the Empire State Building? Lighting up a NY building in the colors of a NFC East rival? What an absolute piece of s**t building. Id be embarrassed to have it in my city. They should knock it down." The trolling seems to have caught the attention of the Empire State Building, who savagely snapped back at Dave with his own video in which he mockingly cries and says, "Life is so unfair!" A user responded to this with, "Hahahaha good one. Everyone in New York still hates you guys, though." "Getting dragged by a building... 2023 is wild," read a tweet.
