'Today' host Carson Daly compares co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie to 'Mean Girls'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: NBC’s ‘Today’ host Carson Daly recently teased his co-host Hoda Kotb and said the host called Savannah Guthrie a ‘loser’.
During a 'PopStart' segment hosted by Daly, the host showed the new ‘Mean Girls’ Walmart commercial.
He paused the segment in between to playfully joke with the 59-year-old host as they both ended up in a burst of laughter.
'Mean Girls' is a 2004 teen comedy starring Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, who navigates high school's social minefield.
Today’s Carson Daly teases Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie
On Thursday's ‘Today’ show, host Carson Daly led the 'PopStart' segment focusing on current pop culture news.
He featured a new Black Friday commercial by Walmart, and notably, the cast of Mean Girls reunited to create a parody of the movie for the ad.
Introducing the topic, Daly said, "Next up, Mean Girls, take a look."
During the segment, a clip from the original ‘Mean Girls’ movie was played, featuring characters Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried), and Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert).
In the scene, Regina, Karen, and Gretchen were in Regina's car, and Regina famously said, "Get in loser. We're going shopping."
Kotb responded with a quiet chuckle and exclaimed, "God."
Daly, on the other hand, playfully teased his co-host, saying, "That's how Hoda picks up Savannah."
Amidst laughter, Daly playfully shrugged, tilted his head, and imitated Regina's famous line, "Get in, loser."
Subsequently, Daly proceeded to air the commercial, which showcased several actors from the original ‘Mean Girls’ movie.
Hoda Kotb’s mocked in 'Saturday Night Live’s Halloween skit
Hoda Kotb wasn't a stranger to being humorously featured in the 'PopStart' segment.
Earlier in the week, she reacted to a 'Saturday Night Live' skit where a child dressed up as her for Halloween.
Daly had discussed celebrities showcasing their Halloween costumes one day before the holiday.
During the 'SNL' sketch, cast member Sarah Sherman dressed as Fran Drescher, the president of SAG-AFTRA.
She humorously outlined which costumes were approved for trick-or-treaters, given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Sarah quipped, "Unfortunately this year, you can't be Yoda, but you can be Hoda."
A child actress then joined in, wearing a wig and a business suit like Kotb’s morning show attire, holding a wine glass and humorously stating, "The wig is fake, but the wine is real," before taking a sip, likely of apple juice, and walking away.
As the camera returned to the hosts, Kotb couldn't help but laugh.
Daly inquired, "Did you see that?" Off-camera, Al Roker chuckled in response.
Kotb closed her eyes, acknowledging the playful skit, and nodded before sharing, "I did. I got a couple of texts on that one."
