RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA: Pastor Tiphani Montgomery has sparked outrage among netizens after she called Beyonce a “witch” and shamed Christians who plan to attend her concert. One of many Twitter users reacted by saying, "Beyoncé is so powerful and talented that there are people who actually think that she’s a witch because everything she does is not human.”

Montgomery, who founded the Covered By God ministry, said on February 12, as quoted by Insider, “Any of you who are going to Beyoncé’s concert, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus, how dare you call yourself a Christian. I don't care what pastor you got who's OK with it, I don't care what pastor you got that think it's cool, I don't care what pastor you got that sing along to the songs because they want some clout."

She added by saying, "When a witch has a coven it's normally a small thing. Witch's covens are normally three to seven people," she said. "When it becomes thousands it's called a hive. Y'all a part of that lady Beyhive? And you call yourself a Christian? May the dealings of the lord come upon you."

'Wish we would pray as publicly for entertainers as we rebuke them'

Following which, many criticized Montgomery, saying it was preachers like her that made them leave the church. One commented on her Instagram post, "You are one of the many reasons people turn away from Christianity. You are pushing your agenda in the name of Jesus. Where is the message of love and forgiveness? Instead, this clip looks like you are judging and criticizing." Another wrote, "Please help me understand, I am a Christian woman who loves and respects Beyonce. I've been to countless Beyonce concerts dating back to my teenage years. I never felt a spiritual pull or experienced any influence to deny God. I struggle to understand people who claim Beyonce is demonic or a witch. She’s a hard-working woman just like you and me." One Twitter user wrote, "Sounds like somebody's mad that they couldn't score tickets."

A TikToker named Cece, said, "We all have the right to follow our own religion and, or spiritual belief. It's our constitutional right," Cece said. "But what y'all not gonna do is take us back to the Salem witch trials," quotes Insider. Beyonce's former Destiny's Child bandmate Michelle Williams told, in an Instagram post with a caption that read, "I might get in trouble but………..😬 Let’s pray LOUDER for EVERYBODY," "I just wish we would pray as publicly for entertainers as we rebuke them and damn their soul to hell," Williams said. "I know it ain't my calling mission to damn entertainers to hell and to say that they would drop dead. The devil is a lie."

'Why Don’t You Love Me'

Montgomery's previous career as an author was also brought up. On Amazon, there are several books under her name with titles such as 'The Millionaire Mistress' and 'Expensive Taste,' with sexualized covers featuring women in lingerie. One wrote, "I will not listen to her sermons. Tiphani Montgomery is fake, living two lives, using the church for attention & money yet writing sleazy sultry sex books for money too. & before you say this is old it’s not, these books are from 2020." Many also called Montgomery a hypocrite as they found several old tweets from her Twitter account that claimed in 2010 that she was “addicted” to Beyonce’s 'Why Don’t You Love Me' and attended a Jay-Z and Beyonce concert in 2014. Following this, Montgomery addressed the resurfaced tweets and wrote in defense of herself, "I publicly came against and denounced their god baalyonce so they found these tweets from 2010, 2011, 2014. But I had just did a YouTube the night before saying I was the BIGGEST jay z and baalyonce fan…until I got saved in my shower in August 2015." And added, "What’s my point? My point is anytime you’re a mouth piece for God they will try to discredit you. But I’m more afraid of The Living God than I am dead skeletons!"
