PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIFORNIA: Tiger Woods came under fire from trolls and has now angered a women's group after pulling a prank on Justin Thomas and giving him a tampon when he outdrove him at a hole during their match on Thursday, February 16. The 15-time major champion was spotted on camera handing a tampon to Justin Thomas, who quickly flicked it away when he realized what it was.

Social media has been swamped with those defending Woods' move as nothing more than an intimate joke between the two. The act has drawn criticism from a number of people, including one organization supporting female empowerment. "Tiger's tampon moment was not only misogynistic but also tone-deaf and straight-up disrespectful to women and girls all over the world," Kara Sugar, CEO of Women's Global Empowerment Fund said, reports TMZ.

'Periods are a sign of weakness?'

The outraged Kara Sugar, CEO of Women's Global Empowerment Fund later asked TMZ whether the star golfer Tiger Woods was suggesting that "periods are embarrassing, shameful, or a sign of weakness?"

'It was just friends having fun'

Following the uproar, Woods apologized at a press meeting on Friday. "It was supposed to be all fun and games," he stated, "but obviously it hasn't turned out that way and if I offended anybody that was not the case." he added, "It was just friends having fun. As I said, if I offended anyone in any way shape, or form, I'm sorry. It was not intended to be that way." "We play pranks on one another all the time and virally I think that this did not come across that way but between us it was different," he continued.
