In May, Woods spoke to reporters dropping a subtle hint on sticking to PGA while also acknowledging Mickelson’s controversial comments toward the PGA Tour. “[Mickelson] has his opinion on where he sees the game of golf going. I have my viewpoint on how I see the game of golf, and I’ve supported the tour and my foundation has run events on the tour for a number of years”, said the 46-year-old adding, “I just think that what Jack [Nicklaus] and Arnold [Palmer] have done in starting the tour and breaking away from the PGA of America and creating our tour in ’68 or ’69, somewhere in there, I just think there’s a legacy to that.” Woods concluded, “I’ve been playing out here for a couple of years over decades, and I think there’s a legacy to it. I still think that the tour has so much to offer, so much opportunity.”
‘You don't cut the hand that fed you from day one’
Social media users praised Tiger Woods’ decision to reject the lucrative deal from the rival league. “Gotta respect Tiger Woods for turning down over a hundred million bucks to play for the new Saudi golf tour. That's the different between Tiger and Phil. Tiger is not about money.”
The next one tweeted, “So Tiger Woods was offered close to $1B to join a Saudi backed golf association group LIV but declined. You don't cut the hand that fed you from day one.” One posted, “Tiger Woods has shown higher ethical and moral standards than Norman and his band of traitors to support a regime like Saudi Arabia after what they did to Khashoggi.” Whereas, one user concluded, “If @TigerWoods had signed up for Saudi Golf, would the @PGATOUR ban him? Of course not. None of this is about ethics, it’s about power & money.”
