‘This Is Us’ is all about complicated relationships and how people behave in situations that common people go through in their lives. That’s one of the main reasons why the NBC show has done so well over the years. In the latest episode, we finally got to know why the relationship between Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) was never how it should be between a mother and a daughter.

During the episode, we go back into the time and see Miguel (Jon Huertas) telling Rebecca about the speed dating thing going on. He believes it’s time for her to move on. That’s what Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) would have wanted for her. After thinking about it for several hours, she says yes and goes for the event. Even though she’s on a date, all she could talk about was Jack and how he died. Miguel says that if the next guy is not the one, then they will head out. But she meets someone that she knew from the past and had a great time.

After the time ends, the guy asks him if she wants to go out for a coffee. As soon as Rebecca reaches home after the coffee, young Kate asks her about the man and the car. Rebecca politely says that she’s trying to move and that’s what Jack would have wanted. Kate gets angry and says that she can’t do that. Rebecca says that she was the one who told her to get a life. Kate loses it and says that Jack wouldn’t have wanted to go out and act like a “sl*t”. Rebecca loses it and slaps Kate.

Meanwhile, in the present scenario, Rebecca comes to meet Kate and her grandchildren. Kate takes her to school and tells people there that her mother plays amazing piano. Kate calls Tobey and tells him that she needs to tell her everything. As soon as they reach home, Kate gives her the heartbreaking news that she doesn’t want her to take care of her children anymore because of Alzheimer’s. Rebecca gets really emotional and she leaves Kate’s house.

As soon as the scene aired, social media erupted with a lot of reactions as they came out in support of Rebecca and slammed Kate for being so rude to her mother. One of the fans wrote, “Kate had that slap coming. WHEW!” Another fan wrote, “Damn. Teen Kate was awful and grown-up Kate just broke Rebecca's heart again.”

“Kate is the worst. I really do not like her. Never have,” wrote another one. “Teenage Kate can go to hell. She deserved that slap,” said another fan.

Meanwhile, one of the fans wrote that Rebecca was absolutely right in saying that Jack would have wanted her to move on. She wrote, “Young adult Kate needed that slap! Rebecca should’ve cursed her out. Jack wanted her to be happy & move on.”

Some people did understand Kate’s reasoning, but they were devastated to see Rebecca getting her heart broken again. The user noted, “My heart absolutely shattered for Rebecca at that moment. Oh, I understand Kate’s reasoning, but my god how devastating to Rebecca.” Another one said, “Powerful episode. High stakes between Kate and Rebecca. Younger and now. Kate not letting Rebecca watch her kids anymore is like taking the car keys away from a parent who is no longer safe on the road. The right decision but heartbreaking.”

In the end, it all concluded on a happy note as Kate met Rebecca and apologized for everything. She also apologized for blaming her for everything in her life and wanted Rebecca to teach Jack piano.

‘This Is Us’ Season 6 will return to NBC after the Winter Olympics.
