'The Voice' Season 17: Fans not in favor of block button, say it's hard on coaches and singers

Fans feel some singers would have done much better with a blocked coach rather than the ones thrust on them.

'The Voice' Season 17 graced our screens with episode 2 of its Blind Auditions on September 24 night, and while fans and viewers are excited that the series is back, they are not in favor of the block button.

Three seasons ago, 'The Voice' introduced a new addition to their Blind Audition process - the block button. Each of the four coaches has a chance to their block button once on any of the coaches, which prevents them from adding a singer they turn their chair for to his/her team.

Each coach can use their block button only once during the Blind Auditions, otherwise, it sure would have created friction between the coaches, with each blocking the other. Though it might be making the competition much more interesting to watch, fans have been having mixed reactions about the block button ever since it was introduced.

In just two episodes during Season 17, three coaches have already used their block button. Blake Shelton was the first coach who used his block button to on Kelly Clarkson who turned her chair for Katie Kaden. Gwen Stefani was the second coach to use her block button on Blake Shelton. She used her block to get Kyndal Inskeep in her team. John Legend was the third coach to use his block button on Kelly once again. He used it to block her from having a chance at getting Max Boyle to join her team.

Currently, Kelly is the only coach who has a block button left. And fans speculate that she might use it on Blake. Apart from that, fans took to social media to reveal that they weren't in favor of the block button. Not only does it make it confusing for some, they point out that it is almost like a punishment, not just for the coach who is blocked, but also for the singer, who might have done much better with the blocked coach, rather than the ones left.

"#TheVoice block button needs to go... I get it... its tv... but what about the artist and their choice?" wrote a fan on Twitter. Adding to that another said, "I still maintain that the Block button on #TheVoice is actually a huge disservice to the artists. It's rude."

"This block button on #TheVoice isn’t fair to the contestants. They could literally get blocked from working with their idol," said another fan.

'The Voice' season 17 airs every Monday and Tuesday night only on NBC. Check your local listings for more information.
