LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Episode 4 of 'The Voice' Season 22 aired on September 27, 2022, and the judges continued their search for contestants to fill their respective teams. Gwen Stefani found one with Kayla Von Der Heide. Kayla auditioned with 'Jealous Guy' by John Lennon, a song which was well suited for her old-school singing voice.

Gwen and John Legend turned for her after 20 seconds into her performance and fiercely competed to get Kayla on their teams. Gwen especially was a big fan of Kayla's voice, saying, "I love her voice". She stated that Kalya's singing reminded her of Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks, singers from the 1960s and 1970s. Blake Shelton didn't turn because he said he saw his wife and fellow judge Gwen press her button and wanted her to have Kayla.

Kayla Von Der Heide on 'The Voice' Season 22

Kayla auditioned on 'The Voice' with John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy', a song that perfectly fit her 'cozy' voice. She made Gwen and John turn for her and pitch to have her on their respective teams. While John called Kayla's voice authentic with a cozy vibe to it, Gwen said that her voice reminded her of Stevie Nicks, the singer from the 1960s and 1970s. She continued to add that it was like a cross between Fiona Apple and Stevie Nicks. The statement made Kayla choose Gwen as her coach, much to John's dismay. But Kayla stated that she did grow up listening to Gwen throughout her childhood. So we suppose her choice was obvious.

Fans also noted a similarity as they took to the Youtube comments of Kayla's audition video to say, "Such a classic voice. She dropped some of those low notes and had a nervous flutter but sounded pretty good." Another added, "Kayla's voice sounds timeless and her chest voice was amazing on this song. Also, Love the quiver in her vibrato." One noted, "Kayla sounded amazing on that song! Loved her confidence and song choice and she showed a lot of experience and understood what she was doing. She made it her own. I didn't feel any nerves from her at all honestly. If she keeps giving performances like that she could go really far." A fan wrote, "Wow she sounds like she’s from the 60s".
