'Pure insanity': 'The View' slammed for dressing up child as the infamous 'Oscars slap' for Halloween
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A child dressed as the infamous Oscars slap caused a stir during the Monday, October 31, broadcast of 'The View'. The child's 'Oscars slap' was highlighted with a bloody handprint on the face as part of a Halloween spoof.
The children made their appearance in the "BOO! Are you wearing" part of Monday's Halloween special, which made fun of 2022's "horror stories and shocking moments." When introducing the child who was dressed as the Oscars slap, Ashley Alderfer-Kaufman, wardrobe supervisor for 'The View', said, "'This year, the Oscars made huge headlines but it really wasn't about who won, it was about what happened with Best Actor Will Smith, when he went up and slapped Chris rock."

Alderfer-Kaufman added, "Now we do not want to endorse violence of any kind but we couldn't help but talk about one of the hottest hot topics of the year. So we have our interpretation, we have an Oscar statue, we call this the Oscars slap. He has a red facepaint on the statue."

The young performer walks onto the stage decked up in an Oscar-inspired gold outfit, gold mask, and face paint. A red paint handprint over the child's face finished off the ensemble. The joke, which was a part of a skit when many children wore costumes to represent popular subjects in 2022, didn't sit well with all of the viewers of 'The View'.
Many individuals expressed their thoughts on Twitter, with one person writing, "This segment was pure insanity." Another person wrote, "This looks like something from a dystopian thriller," to which someone else replied, "Because that's where we live now, apparently... lol."

Another person, who claimed to have given up watching the show, wrote, "Giant fail. The View thinks celebrating an abusive memento is cool? It triggers adults and children who have suffered slaps and other physical violence. It's not a joke. It shows extremely poor taste and compassion."

I stopped watching them and have no regrets.
When Smith smacked Rock at the Oscars ceremony in March for making a bald joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, he stirred up a brutal backlash. The Hollywood actor, who won the Best Actor Oscar minutes after slapping the host of the ceremony, was barred from the Oscars for ten years as a result of the incident, but he was permitted to keep his oscar.
