'What about the 50 dead in Chicago?' Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar slammed for 'get rid of Republicans' rant

'The View' hosts were of the opinion that as long as the Republicans were in power there would be no gun reforms

Sunny Hostin along with her 'The View' co-host Joy Behar were slammed online after they called for Republicans to be voted out as they had done nothing on gun reforms despite repeated mass shooting incidents in the US.

Hostin and Behar were discussing yet another mass shooting in the United States on Wednesday, June 1, when they expressed concern about lack of gun reforms and why people should not 'vote for Republicans'.

Behar started her rant by spilling numbers on the deaths caused by gun violence in 2022. Her figures claimed that 18,182 people died because of it and 691 were children. This is when Behar brought in the word Republicans, saying, "I always say, don't vote Republicans."

Hostin ended up agreeing with Behar and went on a rant. The 53-year-old New Yorker made sure her opinion was heard in the episode where they were discussing the Tulsa hospital shooting with the ladies of 'The View.'

Hostin, who usually disagrees with Behar, said, "So I'm now with you, Joy. Get rid of Republicans, get rid of the party. Because as the party stands now, it's the party of white supremacy, it's the party of insurrectionists, the party of massacres at this point. It's the party... you can't trust it." Her point was encouraged further by Behar who said, "[Americans] can go back to [voting for Republicans] after we get gun laws. I think, for now, the way to save their jobs - is because Republicans are going to get voted out if they vote for gun safety. The only way to preserve their jobs is to vote for Democrats. Then they can do whatever they want in the Republican Party and we'll have more Democrats to get the laws done."

She even slammed Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell and said the Republicans were blocking gun reforms. She said, "You can't trust Mitch McConnell and his word, ever, because he's a filthy liar and has been for quite some time. Republicans get in lockstep against gun safety because all they care about is power."

One Twitter user was angry with almost all the members of the panel and said, "They won’t even talk about Chicago memorial weekend. 50 shot, 9 dead. Cause the narrative doesn’t equal out. They r the most racist ppl on tv. Mainly The whoop, the Bey, and the sun. But hey. Keep going blaming the same white ppl for shootings. It’s all races. It’s the same hate." Another user tweeted, "So get rid of Republicans? 53 people were shot in Chicago last weekend and I don’t think a single one of them was shot by a Republican. But tell us more."

Some people weren't having their strong sentiments and slammed them for being Democratic, saying, "Democrats are the ones who voted against the Parkland commission that would make school safety a priority. This coming out of the parkland shootings. The Democrats voted No! Uvalde could have been prevented if the democrats passed this." Another frustrated user tweeted, "Do more homework — top 4 high crime cities are Chicago, Baltimore, Kansas City and Nashville — ALL run by Democratic mayors!

Pro-Republicans were quick to put Hostin back in her place, saying the blame, if any, has to be divided.

One user wrote, "'Get 'rit' of the Republican party'. Does anyone on the planet take this crazoid seriously, anymore? Oh my...it is frightening that this lunatic has a platform." Another user said, "Bring some progressives on your show once in awhile to explain to you who ALL the culprits are. Y'all don't know how to use that huge platform you've been given and don't deserve."
