PARIS, FRANCE: Things are heating up quickly in the latest episode of 'The Veil,' as Adilah El Idrissi (Yumna Marwan) reveals her true identity.
The miniseries, directed by Steven Knight, is built on the theme of deception, with two women attempting to outwit each other while harboring deep secrets.
The series' narrative revolves around an intelligence operator, Imogen Salter (Elisabeth Moss), who befriends a strange woman named Adilah, who is suspected of being the dreaded commander of ISIS.
Throughout the first four episodes of the series, there were indirect indications that revealed Adilah's true identity, but in the fifth episode, dubbed 'Grandfather's House', Adilah directly confirms her affiliation with the deadly terrorist group.
Adilah El Idrissi's true identity as Djinn Al Raqqa gets revealed in 'The Veil' Episode 5
In the most recent episode, Adilah departs Imogen's apartment and goes to a restaurant to meet Emir (Alec Secareanu). It is then revealed that Adilah is none other than the infamous ISIS commander Djinn Al Raqqa.
During her conversation with Emir, it is established that she is protecting Imogen because she is an intelligence operative, which will aid her in her mission and if Adilah does not accompany Imogen, she will be arrested right away, thwarting their terrorist plan.
Emir warns her that her daughter Yasmina (Neyla Bara or Keyla Bara) will be put to death right in front of her if she doesn't follow the plan.
He also wants her to execute Imogen to demonstrate her commitment, so she responds that she will bring Imogen to a crowded area but will be unable to kill her on her own, indicating that she has built a strong bond with the MI6 operative.
Is Adilah El Idrissi being blackmailed into supporting ISIS?
The surprising revelation of Adilah's true identity clearly demonstrates a mother's love, since she is determined to protect her daughter at any cost, including partnering with ISIS. This begs the question of how far someone will go for their loved ones, obscuring the distinction between good and wrong.
Furthermore, Emir's threat to harm her daughter reveals Djinn's weakness and suggests she is being controlled.
Now that Adilah's true identity has been revealed, it will be interesting to see where her true loyalties lie, as represented in the series.
In the episode, it was revealed that Adilah refused to share the location of the ships even after Imogen protected her daughter, sparking doubts about her real intentions. Is the dreaded ISIS leader still playing her cards while attempting to protect her daughter for her own sake? Is she using Imogen to infiltrate a wider plot, as she mentioned to Emir? Things are still complicated and unanswered.
Overall, all the questions will be answered in the series' finale which will undoubtedly shed light on Adilah's genuine intentions.
