'The Protector' was Netflix's first Turkish original series. Since then, we also got 'The Gift' aka 'Atiye' and 'Love 101'; however, 'The Protector' aka 'Hakan: Muhafız' remains a fan favorite. First released in December 2018, the streaming service dropped the third season for the show earlier this year. Now, the Turkish fantasy drama's fourth and final season is set to be released on the platform.

In 'The Protector', the life of Hakan Demir (Çağatay Ulusoy), a 20-something shopkeeper and part-time con artist, changes after his adoptive father, Neset, is killed. Hakan then meets the Loyal Ones, Kemal (Yurdaer Okur), and Zeynep (Hazar Ergüçlü). The Loyals Ones are part of an ancient secret order whose duty is to protect the city of Istanbul from the Immortals. Hakan himself is the Protector, who is the only one who can kill the Immortals and prevent the destruction of the city with his talismanic shirt that gives him mystic powers.

Over the first season, we meet Faysal (Okan Yalabık) who is the only Immortal left alive. All Faysal wants to do is bring his wife, Ruya (Burçin Terzioğlu) back from the dead using Hakan's blood. However, by the end of Season 1, all the Immortals came back to life. In the second season, Hakan realized he had a brother. Unfortunately, his brother was influenced by the Immortals and ended up doing their bidding releasing a virus and poison on the humans of Istanbul so that the Immortals can have the city back for themselves.

The third season, which dropped on Netflix in March this year, followed the aftermath of the virus being released in Istanbul. With the arrival of a new Immortal, Hakan's mission is made more complicated when Zeynep and he break up. This leads to Hakan getting into a romantic relationship with Nisan (Funda Eryiğit), whom they rescued from the Immortals. Though, it turns out that Nisan is actually Vizier, the new Immortal who has always been the most feared. Vizier is on a warpath, wanting vengeance on Hakan for his ancestor's betrayal when they were in a relationship. However, when all seems lost, Hakan finds a key that takes him to the past as Hakan becomes the ancestor, just before his betrayal of Vizier.

The final season is set to conclude Hakan's story. Turkey, in present-day, is a warzone, with Vizier asking the people of Turkey to choose a side as Zeynep and Hakan remain determined to defeat the Immortals. Hakan decides that he has to solve the issue in the past, right before his ancestor stabbed Vizier. Will Hakan succeed and save Istanbul? Only time will tell.

'The Protector' Season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix on July 9 at 12 am PST. Watch the promo for the final season below.
