Who is the Raccoon?
As for the overall clues that the show revealed even before it began airing, the contestants on Season 5 have a combined 26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records among them. The Raccoon mask isn't as fancy as the rest of the masks on the season like the Phoenix and Seashell which are both very elaborate and ornate.
However, is the Raccoon an absolute charmer? He absolutely is and on night one he made it clear that he might not be a great singer but he can easily move ahead in the competition because he has the judges and audiences wrapped around his finger. This was already proved as the Snail who was a fairly better singer was sent home at the end of the episode and his identity was revealed as Kermit the Frog.
As for the clues about the Raccoon's identity, in his clue package video, he said that he had been locked up in the past and even faced potential death but in those moments he prayed to God and made a promise to do the right thing if he made it alive and has continued to do so till date.
Who do the judges think the Raccoon is?
Names like Gary Busey, Mike Tyson and Danny DeVito came up among the judges, however, they're missing out on some clues that directly point to the masked celeb being Danny Trejo from 'Machete'. The Raccoon, in his clue package, said, "Sometimes to get the happy ending, you have to go through hell first."
He was seen in jail with the book 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' and said that he was about to face death and the only thing keeping him sane was the book. He compared himself to Quasimodo but the Raccoon said the only difference was that he wasn't innocent. A donut, a switchblade, a magnifying glass and a stained-glass picture of him battling a snake all show up in the first clue package.
About Trejo being the Raccoon, the actor spent much of his life before fame in prison for a slew of offenses including robbery, drugs and theft. Trejo had even spoken to Entertainment Weekly about the time he was in solitary confinement and was "facing a possible death penalty charge". About the Quasimodo bit he mentioned, during a podcast appearance he had said that he used to enact scenes from 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' and 'The Wizard of Oz' to stay sane.
Trejo had made a promise to God and he kept it. After being released from prison he got sober, followed the 12-step program while working with a youth drug counselor and also helped others to do so. He has since worked with a number of charities including ones related to autism awareness and animal rescue. He also provided meals for health care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The glowing donut that appears in the clue package video can be a nod to all the restaurants that Trejo owns in Los Angeles, California, which also includes Trejo's Coffee & Donuts. The Cluedle Doo also gave away a clue about the Raccoon saying he is known to be sharp and Trejo has always acted in films that are named after sharp objects including 'Navajas', 'Machete', 'Razor Charlie' in the 'From Dusk Till Dawn' series, and Cuchillo which is Spanish for a knife in 'Predators'.
