Episode 8 of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 4 saw Midge and Lenny spend a passionate night together and while many were relieved with them finally hooking up, there was a hint at a potential relationship between the two being ill-fated in one of the scenes that followed.

Titled 'How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall,' Episode 8 of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 4 showed Midge finding a bag in Lenny's hotel bathroom. She asks him about it but he cuts her short by saying that it is "all good." She tries to bring it up during the conversation after his performance at the Carnegie but he tells her not to make their argument about him. While we could expect to see more of Midge and Lenny in the upcoming season, those familiar with history would prepare for worse. Why should you be preparing for the worst? Well, the answer to that lies in the bag that Midge found in Episode 8 of 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 4.

'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' Season 4 Episode 7: Who were the women threatening Abe?

By now we're familiar with Lenny's substance abuse, or at least with his alcohol abuse. Heck, Midge even picked up an inebriated Lenny from the curb in Episode 5. However, what might come as news to many is Lenny's addiction to heroin and morphine.

Though the series is yet to touch upon it, the bag in Lenny's bathroom did have drug-related paraphernalia and we could expect the upcoming season to address this issue that resulted in the provocateur's untimely death. Lenny Bruce indulged in drugs casually but following his arrest in New York in 1964 his heroin intake increased significantly. Two years later, the pathbreaking comic would be found dead in his Hollywood Hills home at 40, with a syringe and burned bottle cap by his side. The official cause of death was "acute morphine poisoning caused by an accidental overdose."

Given that 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' is set in the '60s, it just seems odd for Midge to find the bag otherwise. Yes, sadly, the marvelous and magical bond that Midge shares with Lenny is bound to be tragic and it's only fair that we burst the bubble for you before the makers do.

'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
