The Mandalorian's shot in Chapter 3 incapacitates Greef Carga without killing him, perhaps intentional so they can become allies again

Mando did know Greef was keeping the bars close to his chest (literally) and unlike Thor, he would have known to go for the head. Unless he wasn't trying to kill Greef after all

Spoilers ahead for 'The Mandalorian' Chapter 3 'The Sin'

After 'The Mandalorian' Season 1's explosive Chapter 3 'The Sin', the titular Mandalorian bounty hunter played by Pedro Pascal has now turned his entire guild against himself. While he may still have his tribe to get him out of tight spots, the other Mandalorians can't risk coming out of hiding too often so Mando is pretty much on his own with only Baby Yoda for back-up.

Despite clearly being a very skilled warrior, Mando has constantly shown an aversion to unnecessary violence, choosing to take his bounties alive rather than dead. This tendency to choose peace over violence is what made him take Baby Yoda under his wing and it may also have created the opportunity for a current enemy to become a future friend.

Greef Carga (Carl Weathers) honestly didn't stand a chance against Mando, despite whatever he might have thought of himself. By now, it's pretty obvious Mando was a better fighter than any of the other guild members, including Greef, and the fact that Greef's Beskar steel bars stopped Mando's shot might very well have been the wildest fluke of all time. Or maybe it wasn't.

The only logical explanation for Greef's survival, other than dumb luck, is that Mando was intentionally shooting at the Beskar steel bars so as to incapacitate Greef without killing him. Mando did know Greef was keeping the bars close to his chest (literally) and unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Mando would have known to go for the head.

Whether Mando intended it or not, we'll most certainly be seeing Greef again and while he might not immediately be all chummy with Mando, we do think they might eventually become valuable allies. Now that he's on the run, Mando could use some help and in the end, Greef's survival might just end up saving the Mandalorian and his little green companion.

The next episode of 'The Mandalorian' will air November 29 exclusively on Disney+.
