'The Magicians': Actor Arjun Gupta bids adieu to Penny-40 while fans cheer his return: 'My heart is whole again'

The Penny Adiyodi (Arjun Gupta) of Timeline-40 died in Season 3 but was soon replaced by the Penny from Timeline-23. Fans have missed the original, however, and his appearance this episode have sent many of his fans over the moon; they know very much which Penny they prefer.
"oh thank GOD IT'S THE RIGHT PENNY!" exclaims a fan on Twitter. "HELL YEAH! OG PENNY! MY HEART IS WHOLE AGAIN" cheers this user. Though Penny-23 has been around for two seasons now, fans still prefer the original. "Ugh I missed the real Penny. That poser from 23 just wasn't working for me," writes this fan.
Not all the fans are as harsh, however, but they've made their preference known, nonetheless, with one writing, "We all miss the original fun penny #TheMagicians the other penny is still cool just more mature." Another tweets, "Original Penny content is rare so I’m glad he’s in this episode. Actually made my day."
Of course, the fans aren't the only ones who wish the original Penny was around more. Kady Orloff-Diaz (Jade Tailor) gets a glimpse of him this episode and realizes that it's "my Penny" — not the one who's been around. "@JadeTailor 'that’s my penny' is the best line on TV this week " notes a fan.
Arjun Gupta himself tweeted about the experience, pulling a double-shift this episode by playing two separate versions of himself. He tweeted a behind-the-scenes, while also saying, "My biggest joy on #TheMagicians has been the blessing to play two different versions of the same character. A true thrill!"
He implies that this episode might be the last we see of Penny-40 — especially with no return season for 'The Magicians' — but he gives fans an ending for Penny-40 that they can imagine for him, writing, "I will miss Penny 40. He was always the Original. We don’t find out what happens but I imagine him building the Underworld and kindly sheparding many souls through their biggest transition for all time! He sends his love to you all and will see y’all on the flip :) "
